Local Saints coverage part 2

its been harped on here how awful the saints beat writers are, sans maybe Underhill.
honestly i dont think there has been anyone in the local media to turn a critical eye on the saints since Buddy D. Hebert sometimes, but he really just goes off on a drunken rant. Jim Henderson maybe. but that is it. Forget the Mackels, etc. homers all of them
i will never forget how sick i felt when the TP had--on the front page no less--a heading with "Saint Reginald" when Bush was taken second in 06

They stopped being critical of the saints because Payton would lock them out or refuse to answer their questions if they were. There were a number of writers blacklisted by Payton early on because they would write critical pieces or ask tough questions. It’s part of the reason the local media could never break a story
