Why did they have to make 7 4th Quarter comebacks? Why not finish it in the first 3 quarters? I didn't know machines were capable of mercy.

Thank you for the civilized reply.

I don't think the Colts are some unbeatable entity that can win NFL games in the first 3 quarters. I'm talking about consistency.

Over the 18 games both teams have played, the Saints gain about 30 more yards/game than the Colts, and their defense gives up about 30 more yards as well. Pretty even. But, in terms of consistency...

There is a 30 point difference in the standard deviation for points allowed between the 2 teams (Saints: 86; Colts: 66). That's huge. The Saints defense is completely unpredictable.

Offensive variances are pretty similar.

I'm guessing most of you will agree that it's a close matchup. So... why is it so crazy to lean to the Colts side of this toss-up?

To those of you calling me a jackass or a bitch... or employing your fantastic emoticon skills... or even to the person who validated their message with "boom"... calm down. I come in peace. This is an internet forum... I think you're taking this a little too seriously.

Corisma, why don't you just shut up and throw about 5 large on the ponies and give up the points. Then after the game, come back and show us how smart you are.

Never. I think it's very close, and I do not think I have some magical ability to pick this game. I claim no expertise... I'm simply stating my best guess. If the Colts win, I will take no joy in it whatsoever.

I'm a lifelong saints fan. I think Shawn Payton, drew breez, randel bush will lead this team to victory.

Outside of the guys poking fun at you, Sammobile has been writing exactly what I've been thinking. And to this you reply:

quote:

consistency

Saints consistently beat common opponents by larger margins than the Colts. (5 of 6 times)

Saints consistently put up more points than the Colts throughout the regular season. (Saints 1st, Colts, 9th)

Saints consistently had a better rushing offense than the Colts. (Saints 6th, Colts, 32nd)

Saints consistently defended the run better than the Colts. (Saints 21st, Colts, 24th)

So why doesn't consistency weigh in the Saints' favor?

Well, I explained this in a previous post. The Saints are much less consistent on defense, and almost identical on offense. Demonstrated by numbers.

As for your stats... they're cherry-picked and, overall, awkward. Weird, specific, comparisons.

Here's one: The Colts won more games against tougher opponents.

They have zero losses when they sent out the full squad, the Saints have 2.

Plain & Simple.

Again, I think it's a toss-up... this is just my best guess. The fact that people LITERALLY get upset about this... is... crazy. Absolutely crazy.

I'm not asking anyone to agree with me... I'm just asking you to admit that it's close, so it makes sense that people might actually pick the Colts.

OK, I'll end my post and check back in a few to see what names I've been called and the dazzling array of emoticons that have been thrown my way.

Maybe someone will accidentally slip in a coherent argument.

Exactly... You have been watching WAY too much ESPN lately. I don't care how "GREAT" Peyton Manning is, I truly believe this offense and defense is better than the Colts offense and defense... I don't want to hear about stats and numbers because we all witnessed how far those got the Cardinals and Vikings.

BRING ON PEYTON & THE COLTS!!!

WHO DAT!!

The Colts only had Bob Sanders for 2 games.

Sanders > Greer

How should I end this post? Maybe punctuate with a "boom"? Copy/Paste a picture of a donkey? How about with a smiley face that's giving you the bird?

No... I'll never win a cyber battle with you guys. Sigh... no chance.

I think Brees is better than Manning.

As for ESPN, you guys really love to play the victim card. This is the first game all season that I've seen more experts pick the Saints' opponent than the Saints themselves.

But, before every game, some thread is started that says something like "Mike Golic just picked the Saints to lose to the Vikings... I hope he fricking dies!!!" lol, what the hell?

And for this "have faith" crap... that's just misguided. We're talking about a damn football game being played by a group of strangers in their 20's and 30's... not Jesus Christ. Have faith? What are you talking about...? More like "have hope". I have hope. I want us to win. I'm just capable of wanting us to win while maintaining an ability to interpret the game objectively.
