I have never understood why Archie is so idolized in this state. Yes, it appears he is a good guy and so are his sons. But what the hell else has he done for the state? He was way overrated as a NFL QB and it was not just due to his team sucking excuse. He fit right in with the team. For his time he was paid very nicely by the Saints. He ships, not by accident, his sons out of state for college. There was no way in hell Eli and Payton were going to LSU. Jesus could have been the coach and would have made no difference. As a NFL QB Archie was not a hair on Drew Brees'arse, probably not on Heberts' either.

Peyton Manning hasn't been better than Brees the last two ears either. You should actually give Brees the edge since he has had a weaker supporting cast(by looking at honors).

He won the MVP in 1978. Do some homework before you judge.

Let me ask you this. Did you feel this way about Archie 4-5yrs ago?? I never heard anyone from the SOUTH or Louisiana say anything negative about Archie until this year. Since Brees is doing good all of a sudden Archie is overrated, people act as if he's a bad man, etc.

Say if Brees played on the Lions, Chiefs, Browns or Bucs do you think they'd be in the Super Bowl. And if Archie played on the 70's Cowboys and Steelers do you think he'd take them to the Super Bowl. Supporting casts for both QB's are A LOT different. Brees have waaaaaaaaay more talent around him than Archie did. Figured a true SAINTS fan would know that by now.lol.

I get the lovefest for Archie, but his sons not so much. The only tie to La. for them is Newman and how many Newman fans are there in La?

In a year or two, when you become a teenager, you’ll probably understand.

You haven't listened very hard, have you? The Manning backlash predates Brees.

I remember my dad saying Archie would have been one of the all-time greats had he spent the 70's on a team like Dallas, Oakland or even Kansas City. There really isn't anything negative to associate with Archie Manning. I'm not a real big Payton manning fan but that may have more to do with seeing him on every other TV commercial than anything else.

Once a neck always a neck. Archie's a good ole boy and all, but he's always going to be a Mississippi neck, and the identification with Louisiana will never really be complete because of it. IOW, he will never truly be a Louisianian, nor will his kids. You're kidding yourself if you believe the family is true blue New Orleanean. The Mississippi roots run deep, and always will, as will be the hatred for all things LSU.

Archie has made his home in Louisiana, was a part of the Saints organization long after he played, and does lots of charity work in the State. His two sons run a camp every year that help kids you probably know succeed.

Why does he bother you? He is basically just a man living his life and minding his own business. If the media pays too much attention to him, he certainly is not responsible for seeking it.

Archie raises money for Cystic Fibroses, the Special Olympics, and the United Way. He is a winner at life.......in other words.....the opposite of you.

Manning (Archie) does a lot of charity work and PR work for the city that most of you never hear about. Payton, Elie and Archie on their dime, loaded a plane with supplies and sent it down after Katrina.

As far as Payton and Eli going out of state to scholl, it is their choice, No big deal. Archie caught hell from Ole Miss alums because Payton went to Tenessee.

Archie and Oliva are fine upstanding citizens that made N.O. their home and deserve better treatment than some of you that were either not around when Archie played or don't have a clue but yet choose to knock the Mannings at every turn. It sounds to me like ignorance and petty jealousy

Some people just need something to bitch about. Even something as trivial as Archie Manning.

Dude was amazing as QB for a team that wasn't.

Heck he deserves admiration simply for the fact that he has two...TWO...sons that not only made it to the NFL, but also won super bowls...what are the odds against that!

Dittos to all those who mentioned their charitable deeds, too.

All three are good QB,but to act like they are so great for Louisiana. When I heard the other day they charge a very large fee to come down and play in the Zurich GOLF TOUR. that made me sick I thought they came back to NO to support the CITY.But again its just about the money.so don't put them on a trophy.i HOPE THE SAINTS LITE HIS arse UP

While I agree that the Mannings do a lot of charity work and helped deliver aid after Katrina, this urban myth about the Mannings sending Katrina relief supplies to N.O. "on their dime" has to stop.

Peyton, for the most part but Eli did help, used his connections and fame to help convince Air Tran to "donate" a flight that was loaded with donated supplies that was loaded by volunteers.

This was admirable and took a lot of effort for the brothers to pull off in a short time frame and I bet they donated some cash to the effort but it's not like some people portray a scenario where the Mannings bought a C-130 and filled it with stuff they bought from Schwegmann's.

I hate the Mannings - always have. Archie wasn't that good in the pro's - neither were his teams. I hate them because they are anti-Lousisiana.

Arcie gave his hear and soul to the Saints. Over-rated? If anything he was under-rated. Sending his sons out of state? Neither had any obligation to go to an in-state school. Bobby's Hebert's side kick recently said neither "had the courtesy to go to LSU". Unfortunately and mistakenly, many LSU fans feel the same. What a crock. There was no obligation whatsoever. The Mannings have done lots for their city. They love NOLA. End of story. The Manning haters need to get over themselves.
