Vitt isn't only the LB coach. He is the Asst Head Coach. Most call him Payton's Consigliere. When Payton was injured he did the press conferences. He was Asst HC under Vermeil too. When Linehan was fired in STL he interimed there. He's in the NFL fulltime since 1983. So his experience and role is weightier than just position coach.
It can be worse. Haslett was NFL Defensive ROY & Pro Bowl LB but it seemed he couldn't pick or field a quality NFL LB for shite... Sedrick Hodge 3rd Rd, James Allen 3rd Rd, Cie Grant 3rd Rd, Courtney MFing Watson 2nd Rd, Alfred Fincher 3rd Rd.
Maybe it's a long curse after having fielded the best LB group in NFL history.
