I wouldn't say argue, more like discuss.

But I meant which one of my replies. Are they claiming the top 5 wrs make less than $12m average?

They have nothing to say on the subject.

You're making me overexplain my joke.

frick his injury and that argument. If he was so hurt he shouldve sat on the bench. Fact is he played to the detriment of the team.

That's bullshite

And go look at his stats of targeted to catch ratio and drops.

Because Brees forces 2-3 passes a game to him that are damn near uncatchable.

how do you figure?...his 1200 yard season was detrimental to the team?...he lost some physicality/explosion when he got hurt. It was clear to see for those paying attention....still very productive and nowhere near a detriment to the team.

He can't block and he's not physical.

He can't block...everyone knows it...He is a major force in the passing game and has been physical there when healthy.

No it isn't

Agreed. And I've said a few times that he needs a compliment wide out. He cannot do it on his own. Someone who deserves 10-12 mil a year can do it on their own. Megaton for example doesn't require a counterpart. Dude is a straight beast.

And while brees does force shite to him often stupidly there are easily 3-4 passes a game he should catch but gator arms or flat out doesn't make an effort to catch. And if that was because of his injury well then...detriment.

He's a good player. But he isn't worth 10-12 mil. We can't afford that. And even if we could I'd rather use the money to sure up the line and make damn certain Drew has protection and time to throw the ball.

The number is high but there is about 1-2 passes a game he short arms or doesn't look into his hands before turning his head.

And I know he's taken big hits and they obviously have had an effect because he plays scared at times.

Mega makes significantly more than $10-$12m a year. I think his contract averages something like $16.5m/year.

No it's not. I'll have to find the drops stat but it's about every game. Last year and this one.

It's equal to the number of uncatchables. Ill edit with stats later when im at my computer.

What it boils down to is we cannot afford his contract at 10 mil. He's 27. He'll be 28 next season. He doesnt have upward potential. How he is is how he will be the rest of his career.

Signing this dude to a huge deal kills our shot at doing a number of things. Namely suring up the oline and signing our beast young defensive players to contracts to ensure future success of this team.

I cannot justify giving him the money he wants in my mind and i will be furious if we do so without addressing other problems the team has.

At the very least slap the non-exclusive tag on him and fix the rest of the team. When next season gets close after the draft and training camp we can evaluate our cap space and see what kind of contract he can be offered.

There's no reason to rush this deal and if he leaves for multiple picks, a proven starter at center or corner and a couple picks, or the non-exlusive required 2 1st round picks i wont lose a minute of sleep over it

He's not worth $12m. Nowhere near $12m.

1,200 yds and 16 TDs when injured? OK that'll work.

Good news is that with the cap going up to at least $132m, a team might want to pay him that and give up a ton of picks. If he's serious about that kind of money, let him walk. Saints' O has been very resilient in face of injuries and new players. Only one that is irreplaceable is Brees.

Not reading this same ole thread again, but.....

Everybody needs to calm down bc this is just part of the negotiations.

Ripping apart Jimmy right now so we can justify not paying him, is just idiotic. I'll freak out once something actually happens.

PFF reports that his drop rate was 6.52% of catchable balls this season, which is way better than the 15% he had in 2012.

6.52% is in the top quarter of WR's and middle of TE's.

Come on, man. He's not old. He's getting into his prime actually. I'm not saying he's worth 12 million, but he's a fantastic player that I believe will improve even more.
