No truer words have been spoken. Particularly the last quote. Big day tomorrow.

Brees, Sharper, Sproles were all free agents. 2 of those helped us win a Super Bowl.

Edit: shockey and Vilma were traded

so are the rewards, if you guess right

Drew Brees... there are others. Sometimes trade, sometimes free agent. You can find guys to immediately plug a hole

Everyone WANTS to draft well. It doesn't always work out.

Go pick any random year, and pick the 32 best players drafted that year. Guarantee that at least half, and often way more, were not 1st rd picks.

Totally agree! Up voted! But if your referring to the Adrian Peterson signing I disagree. We got a Hall of famer on a cheap, team friendly deal. I totally agree with building a team through the draft. Just hope we nail these next few days!! Geaux Saints!

Fair enough. Now name all the free agents we picked that ended up costing us a fortune and were disasters. I could easily fill up this page you are missing the point the writer was making.

Really in this sport you supposed to draft well, get great free agents, score more points and hold opponents to few points. That's success to winning.

Point is you build with the draft [very cautiously]
fill in the pieces with free agency.

No, I get it. I totally 100% think you build through the draft. However, the biggest free agent acquisition in history of the NFL turned out franchise from a bottom dweller possibly headed to another city to a world champion. It's a mix of both.

Free agency is about opportunities not always filling in need pieces as well.

No doubt that was the Free Agent acquisition of a life time. Even that was a huge risk coming off the injury he suffered. Don't get me wrong I am all for taking advantage of free agency but it comes with a big
risk/reward. My point was the importance of a successful draft keeping a team from being so exposed to free agency.

Could say the same for just about every team in the NFL too

You could say that about every team. Much less expensive and longer lasting to build through the draft where you are not so dependent and exposed to free agency. You will run out of money and quality players much quicker trying to build through free agency.

Jairus Byrd was the most sought after free agent that year. Unfortunately bad health and poor coaching was a big issue. It's hit and miss. Just like the draft.

Go look at new England. Some years, it's more of their own drafts. Other years it's more of their free agents.

The cautionary tale is splurging to be top heavy vs depth.

Jabari Greer, rapist Darren Sharper, Scott Fujita

We don't win a super bowl without filling our defense out with good free agent signings.
