No, he had to get it out the way so that the next hire could be made as soon as possible in order to get ready to scout the Senior Bowl.

February 1st, next Tuesday. I'm not saying that a hire will be made that soon but I'm saying it was the reason Payton did it today to get it out the way so that organization can get the jump on the head coaching search.

Well if that is true, he's a dick. If his whole motivation is scouting the senior bowl, why not announce two weeks ago?
