How do you feel about the defense now?

I'm feeling very optimistic about the future. I also think the magic number is 25. If we can hold our opponents to 25 points or less, I think our offense can out score that and win the majority of our games. They held both Green Bay and San Diego to only 7 points in both games' second halves. That's pretty impressive considering their early struggles.
I think the biggest step to take next is first half game planning. Spags has shown he can make some pretty good adjustments and you can tell he's starting to find the right combination of players to put on the field. The bad part is, the defense has usually already given up at least 20 points in the first half.

All in all, very excited. The scheme is really coming together and he's already showing the ability to move players all over the field.

I think he's figured out what he has, what they can and can't do. The key will be getting some of the productive guys like Wilson, Junior and Hicks more snaps. Hicks is the one I feel can change our whole defense. It's been a while since we've had a disruptive force up the middle. Even if we have an outside pass rush, usually the QB has had a nice pocket to step into. We need Hicks to crash that.

Hell we held KC to 6 first half points. Just need to put it all together. I think we'll see a great defensive output against TB. Bye week will get some guys healthy.

Yeah the only thing hurting them is just giving up a big play, if they could get that fixed they would be holding opponents to 17 r 20 instead of 24 to 30.

Unlike most people, I was extremely pleased with our defense last week. Any improvement upon that will be great to see and will give our offense every opportunity to win football games.

That's another thing I've noticed. For the most part, they really don't give up anything up the middle. It's either a huge 20 yard gain or really nothing.

But I agree about Hicks, I think he is a key as well. Sed Ellis has really done nothing and at this point is rather have Hicks in there. I was skeptical about the whole NASCAR package at first thinking it might just be a gimmick, but that was really the key to stopping that last San Diego drive

Not much better. Long way to go as I see it. Our run def is very bad right now. I kept waiting for Diego to just keep pounding the rock on us. Our safties are a liability right now also.Tez Wilson has got to be able to shed blocks better or he will always be a 3rd down role player. I am a big fan of Spags and it was good to see some improvement the last two weeks.

at least Roman Harper is great at something. He's awesome coming on the blitz.

I have no idea what happened to jenkins since 2010. He was great that year

He's just crappy. Like, getting burned twice by Robert Meachem then talking shite to him after he scores crappy. That's a special brand of crappy. And it really pissed me off that he tries those cheap shots after he's toast. frick him...for now.

Jenkins isn't setting the world on fire, but the SD game was not indicative of his abilities.

defense got fricked in the second half bc the offense didnt move the ball. to many 3 n outs kills any defense.

The San Diego game was his worst game as a Saint. But I have been pissed at Jenkins since the middle of last season. He has hands of stone, takes bad angles(I think he thinks he is faster than he really is), he can't blitz for shite, seems confused by basic routes, has issues locating a ball in flight, etc. Just about everything you don't want in a safety.

His best play this season was illegally poking Aaron Rodgers in the eye

Our defense is still ridiculously bad at off tackle runs.

Our Safeties continuously give up the big play.

And Corey White is still just not good enough to be on the field.

These are all personnel issues. They can't be changed unless we find better players. The off tackle runs might improve if we can get Hawthorne & Casillas out there instead of Herring & Shanle.

The poor Safety play simply wont, we don't have good ball hawks or disciplined players on our roster.

Corey White I find it hard to believe he can't be beaten out for snaps by Greer/PRob/Patrick.

Corey White isn't that bad. Does he get beat? Yes. Does he play like a rookie out there? Hell yeah. Does he suck? I wouldn't go that far.

I think he has potential. Remember this dude was a late round pick out of fricking Samford. He was guarding guys who make Malcolm Jenkins look like Flash this time last year. He has improved every game.
