put him in the nickel and dime and watch him go crazy... Although he's not great on the outside he can hold his own....

Take your purple and gold shades off when assessing what is best for the Saints

When he is making plays all over the field for another team everyone will be bitching that the saints should have drafted him

yea, still want him. I'm usually against the Saints drafting LSU players. If he's there in the 3rd or 4th, I think he's a steal

You're right. He played for LSU so he sucks. Anyone that thinks Tigers can play is a homer.

He could be a great pick depending on how far in the draft he falls. Of course it all depends on if he can stay focused. I think the reward might outweigh the risk.

Speaking from experience, It sounds to me like he has reservations about quitting. He doesnt seem like he's determined to quit. Seems he is putting the onus on other people to keep him clean, which means he has no idea how to quit, or if he even wants to quit smoking dope. That being said, he has tremendous ball skills, and with his height being his only real weakness physically, he might shine in the NFL. There is a solution to his addiction problem, and its not that hard to find, many including myself have found it. He needs to get into a 12 step program, not so much to stop using, but to find out what is causing the using, and address that. I'm sure it's been mention to him a couple of hundred times by now, yet I hear nothing from him about recovery. Unfortunately most addicts/alcoholics that recover are older, and pretty badly mangled by the time they get the real help they desperately need, I wish the kid luck

FYI, I saw the interview on ESPN and he said, and I quote, "It will be better for me to be outside of Louisiana"

I'd still love for the Saints to get him. Biggest problem I have with the "staying out of Louisiana" stuff is that I saw him at LSU Monday and he is at Hornets games a lot. If he really feels like he can't stay out of trouble here then why is he here at all. Imo it'd be a great pick for us.

Some of the people on this board are remarkably judgmental. A 19 year old kid made mistakes in college - Let's crucify him.

Not wanting your team to be the one to inevitably pay a guy millions of dollars is crucifying him?

Nope. But I do believe that the character assassination throughout this thread surely is. Don't act like you know the kid because he smoked too much pot in college.

The problem is he isn't just some college kid. He was a Heisman finalist and a lot of people were depending on him and he threw that all the way. Also, please don't say I'm hard on "kids". That "kid" is older than me

Who is acting like they know him? An early round draft pick is a significant commodity to us. Sorry if I don't want to use it on a guy who was disciplined at least 3 times and finally booted. I could give a shite if he smokes himself stupid, I have no issue with people smoking weed. As long as abstaining from it isn't a prerequisite for your participation in something that you plan on making a life of... go for it. However the fact that the guy (through his own abilities) had the world by the balls and wasn't capable of making good decisions is a pretty big red flag.

Obviously a guy has to be fricking up pretty damn badly to get booted off of a NC caliber team after finishing in the top 5 of heisman voting as a sophomore.

Doesn't change the fact that he was/is a kid.

I am not saying that you are "hard on him." I simply believe that it is faulty logic to believe that just because someone has more at stake that they will suddenly make better decisions. Thousands of college students screw up their potential every year - Doesn't mean they have weak character or should wear a scarlet letter. Ask around - Most college grads on this board would openly admit to rebounding from their moronic college ways - And they faced 1/100th of the temptation. There is no reason to believe that he is not worthy of a draft pick because of his character. Now, his skill set - that's a more fair debate.

Ironically, it sounds like you're the one wearing the purple and hold glasses. Can't say that I blame you, just an observation.
