This loss is not on Dalton. The Ravens hid their blitz packages well and kept the pressure on Dalton to the point that he couldn't even go through his progressions much less set his feet to pass. We stayed with the plan instead of adjusting to this by leaning more on the run game and quick routes and outlet passes and it bit us on the arse. The way to beat your opponent particularly if you are not a high powered high scoring offense is to keep the ball out of their hands by burning the clock and moving the chains.
Ravens ran 52 off. plays the Saints 35.
Ravens TOP:37:47 Saints 22:13. The Ravens had the ball 15 min. more, a full Quarter more than the Saints.
The Saints had a paltry 15 rush atts. Kamara had only 9 and Taysom had 1. WTF? The Ravens had 40 rush atts. They put the ball in the hands of their stars and the Saints did not.
Now go back a week. Saints TOP: 34:51 Raiders 25:09. An almost full 10 min. more than the Raiders. The Saints ran the ball 32 times the Raiders 13. Saints ran 55 off. plays the Raiders 36. Kamara had 18 rush atts. twice as many as against the Ravens and 9 recs. 3 times as much as against the Ravens. Taysom had 10 rush atts. against the Raiders. Against the Ravens Kamara and Taysom had the ball in their hands 14 times. Against the Raiders they had it 40 times. If you want to beat your opponent keep the ball out of their stars hands by putting it in your stars hands 40 times not 14. Instead of adjusting we did more of the same. This is troubling.

And the Ravens are a MUCH better team than the Raiders. McDaniels is definitely more mature than he was with the Broncos, but somehow he made a talented Raiders team worse.

As for the Saints…I question Carmichael’s ability to personnel and call an offense at this point. Hill and Kamara have proven to be your best two offensive weapons, yet you consistently keep the ball out of their hands? I’m not saying you go full wildcat with those two, but damn man…let them cook.
