for the right deal , it would make sense

I’m happy with Juwan Johnson as starter and Trautman as TE2. Of course Moreau is better than Trautman, however, and a far superior athlete.
I wouldn’t hate bumping Trautman to special teams and goal line situations only. He doesn’t have the receiving upside we’d hoped for.

“Moreau endured a miserable season as a run blocker, with his 40.8 run-blocking grade placing dead last out of 23 tight ends who had at least 300 run-blocking snaps in 2022. His 2.8% positive run-block rate ranked last, and his 22.1% negative run-block rate was the second worst among his peers.“
I don’t see Moreau’s value for us. Juwan is your receiving tight end and Trautman is a good blocker. Also remember Trautman was very raw small school prospect and could still turn it around as a receiver. The draft is also loaded with TE talent in every round. I don’t see any benefit in signing Moreau unless he would agree to a league minimum deal to compete for a roster.

Does Moreau have receiving upside? He played 540 more snaps than Waller the last two years in LV and did not make a jump when giving the chance as their TE1
His first three seasons were marginally better than Trautman, not enough to justify spending the little $ we have
Moreau/Trautman
Targets 78/80
Receptions 58/60
Yards 687/641
TDs 10/4
First downs 35/31
If you’re going to spend, what’s keeping you from finding a real upgrade?

Yeah, I'm waiting another year to bring in a tight end unless it's through the draft.
Just doesn't make sense.

I don't think that is even true.
He might be a better athlete. They are similar players.

Were the routes run for both players similar? I’d bet that Waller, when healthy, ran more routes than Moreau by a good bit.

Yes, relative to Trautman. Trautman is slow. Their RAS’s aren’t comparable.

Moreau is a better track athlete but that ain’t everything. It is worth mentioning that Trautman has elite short area agility and is almost a full inch taller. Trautman is a a better blocker and still currently on a rookie deal. I don’t see what value Moreau brings. Waller was hurt the majority of the year last year and Moreau still didn’t produce much.

Moreau has ran 630 routes the last two seasons. He averaged 2 catches for 24.8 yards per game the last two years.
Waller ran 577 the last two seasons
8.75 vs 9.48
71% of the Pro Bowl TEs since 2000 had RAS over 8. Trautman clears the threshold, which is kind of the point. You already have an athletic underachiever at the position. Except this one hasn’t had ample opportunity to prove he can do anything with Carr. They are redundant
Moreau should go play with Burrow, he could post 10 TDs in that offense

Trautman had a better 3 cone, and their 10 yard splits were the same.
Next year is the year to attack tight end if you are going to sign a vet.
I was big on trautman coming out of the draft, but he has disappointed as a receiver. He is fine as a blocker. I wouldn't be mad if they add another tight end in the draft.
Just don't think it will be in the first 4 rounds. There are so many needs on the dline.
