Um no it is not. In fact as bad as the Saints defense played last season, they played well enough to beat Atlanta twice.

Other than your starting safeties, there is not not one unit on Atlanta's defense that I would replace with the Saints. Our dline is better. In fact I would say Cam Jordan is the best defensive player on either team. I know you guys want Osi to be as good and Abraham, but he is not. If he can not get a pass rush, there is no one on your defense that can. You will have to blitz.

I would say our linebackers are a wash. Yes I am a Weatherspoon fan, but Dent is terrible and Nicholas is not much better. We really don't know how Tez and Junior will play in this defense, but a 3-4 scheme fits their skill set better. Lofton and Hawthorne are very solid in the middle.

Your CBs are young and will have growing pains. However based on what I have seen so far, yikes. I do not love our CBs either, but a man scheme is what most of them do well...or better.

Same can be said for Atlanta. Think in Game 1 the Saints only won by 4 points? Game 2 Atlanta won by 10... or something to that extent.

Atlanta can just as easily make the same argument.

No that is true, but...

1) I think with the players we signed/drafted we added to our defense

2) Rob Ryan's scheme is going to fit our personnel better than that atrocity that Spags rolled out.

3) We did not have our head coach or play caller last year. Pre game scheme is one thing, but what really hurt us was the lack of adjustments at half time.

I think going into the off season you guys had holes at LBer, CB, and DE with Abraham leaving. You did not address LBer, you drafted two CBs that I think will be good pros, but are young and have not looked good so far, and took a step back at DE.

I am not saying the Saints have a top 10 defense, but I think we are not as bad as last season showed and added some solid pieces this off season.
