Controlled Scrimmages vs Different Teams Mean Less PT for 1s in Preseason?

Went to 1st preseason game and many of the starters didn’t suit up. Seems like the video I saw of the Jags and Cowboy scrimmages had 1sv1s. I’m guessing the coaches prefer this approach to actually gauge where there ones are bc it allows it in a more controlled fashion PLUS it’s not on national TV for other teams to watch.

It think it's a actually the opposite happening. With 1 less game and the 1s trending to less and less time in the preseason, teams have started turning to even more inter team scrimmages as a way to get better reps in.
Even without the scrimmages starters weren't even getting a full quarter in in recent years.

That's literally what he was saying

At this point if the staff doesn't think a starter needs snaps in a pre season game what are we fans arguing about lol

quote:He is saying the exact opposite, that because starters are getting reps in scrimmages, they are getting less preseason time, when in fact it seems to be the inverse, where we are seeing more scrimmages because starters have been getting less and less preseason reps.
That's literally what he was saying
Edit:
Based on the thread title more so than the post itself, because the post is more non causal, while the thread title definitely points to scrimmages causing less preseason reps.

Not really the opposite. You're both saying the same basic thing.
That starters are playing less than the actual preseason games and teams are using more inter-team scrimmages.
I guess what you're saying is you're giving a different reason for why that happening.
He's saying coaches like for control and secrecy.
Your saying teams need more scrimmages because starters play less in fewer games.
Edit....Not trying to be a dick. LMAO.
I do see what you're saying now based on the title versus the subject

Yeah the subject of the actual post is more ambiguous, and I don't disagree why coaches might favor this route, but the title was pretty clear that the cause is reversed from what I think is actually happening.
In the end, this is probably a good thing and good way to go about it, given the more random nature of preseason games. It doesn't eliminate injury risk (obviously given what happened in a couple of scrimmages), but it can help lessen severity if things are more controlled.
