Clarification needed: lots of misinformation

1.) How long do Saints have rights to SP? I’ve seen 2024, 3 years and 2026.
2.) Does a team have to trade for SP to “get” him prior to whatever the answer is above?

he is under contract to coach here through 2026
earliest he can coach elsewhere without us doing a trade is 2027
he can coach as early as next year if we agree to a trade

I would think those contract years dont run unless he is coaching. Seems like the saint will get compensation no matter when he decides to come back.

its just like player contracts, its for certain years, if he sits out, for whatever reason, then they just expire
he is a free agent in 2027

Why is it always stated that if Andrew luck were to make a return the colts would still own his rights?

because his departure was injury related so he will still owe the team for those years unless they come to an agreement
its also important how the contract is worded, if it for so many years or for specific listed years
as i understand it, payton's contract is for dated seasons and not just so many years ending with the 2026 season
