I doubt the Saints are in the market, but can't help but think how good he'd be in our offense. With that said, it is reported that Chicago wants to trade him and are willing to accept a low draft pick in return. My question is, what would this costs a team in a trade?

His cap number this year is $9.6M. If the Bears trade him, they are hit with a $5.6M in dead money and save $3.9M.

Would the team that traded for them have a first year cap hit of $3.9M?

Or would the first year number actually be $5.8M bc the cap hit that Chi would have to eat is from a prorated portion of the signing bonus?

This question is actually for any players the team may trade for, I just happened to see Marshall mentioned on SC.

Which I think is better for us if we did want to bring him in. He could be had for cheaper than his current contract.

Dwayne Bowe is also expected to get cut. I wonder what he'll demand

Is he more of a deep threat, intermediate/possession, or slot receiver? Sorry, don't know much about him.

Trade a third and gallete and call it a wraps kill two birds in one stone. Our third round picks aren't so good anyway

I don't watch as much football outside of the Saints and playoff games. It was a serious question. But since it appears I am going to get the 3rd degree for an unintended, presumably stupid question, nevermind.

My question is grounded in the poor pass protection last year. I am still skeptical that they will completely fix this issue in one off-season. Mix that in with Colston's downward trend, I am of the opinion need weapons to replace Colston in the possession receiver category or perhaps a veteran slot receiver.

With all that being said, as long as Marshall isn't a receiver that uses (or has used) pure speed to gain separation from defenders I don't see an issue with him playing at a high level at 31. I doubt he's worth the trade value, but he still might have some gas in the tank.

That article is implying that a team would inherit the entire contract, along with the cap hit. However, my understanding it that when he is traded the portion of the signing bonus that is being prorated is assumed by the team trading him; there by, reducing the cap hit for the new team. This article does not get into those details.

Funny thing is they say that bc he has the 16th highest cap hit, he should be putting up #1 stats. But, when you look at the list, he is one spot behind Colston.

Junior is more valuable than him, younger, and costs about the same

He does everything well and is very good in the red zone

I view him as a faster Colston. He has the same size as Colston; Marshall is 6'4", 230lbs, Colston is 6'4", 225 lbs. Marshall has better speed and great hands.

In general the new team is responsible for everything but the signing bonus.

Marshall's contract is simple and we would owe him $7.7m this year, $8.1m next year, and $8.5m the year after. That includes his base and a $200k workout bonus each year. He has no guarantees left so we can cut him anytime scott free. The Bears pay the remaining signing bonus this year.

The Chicago Bears have agreed to trade wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the New York Jets, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The trade, which cannot become official until free agency opens Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, will also rely on Marshall passing a physical.

Figured he wouldn't come to the Saints, but that was quick.
