For now I have Bradley Chubb ahead of Davenport as the better edge rusher prospect. Chubb is a little more polished and has a little better motor. But I want to be clear that Davenport has just as much if not more potential than Chubb.

Chubb is indeed the safer pick of the two, but with risk could come great reward with Davenport.

All I’m saying is don’t be surprised if three years or so down the road Davenport isn’t at at least as good as Chubb.

Maybe even better.

I think we all agree he has the potential in a few years and will very likely be an elite player.

The frustration from many is that we thought it was “Win now” mode but we drafted a lot of “future potential”.

Hopefully what we get back from IR is enough to put us over the top in 2018 or 2019 and we don’t need to make a QB splash until 2020.

If he gets 7-10 sacks this year, that would go a really long way to winning now. I suspect he will come in on obvious passing downs and slowly develop into a 3 down guy. He showed a penchant against the run in college, but I suspect they will want him to focus solely on getting to the QB.

Which I don't this is completely unrealistic.

Jordan will play 95% of the snaps at his DE position and you're going to have a rotation of Okafor, Davenport, Hendrickson, and Kikaha at the other spot and spelling Jordan. It's not like he has to come in and play just as much and produce just as much as Jordan.

Honestly I see it as help now and a full time starter within another year or two which there's nothing wrong with. In the last 7 years beside Jordan our best pass rusher was Galette for a year. I wasn't thrilled with giving up another first but it's beyond past due that we've formally addressed it and am fine with it.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility at all, particularly if he is coming in fresh on passing downs. You can even kick Jordan inside next to Rankins and still have Okafor and Devenport coming off the edge. We have a lot of flexibility.

I am as big of a fan of Kikaha there is, but I don’t think he makes this roster.

That would be fierce.

If he gets 7 sacks year one I will have been very wrong about my thoughts on the pick. And will be very happy to be wrong.

For the record I have no problem with the player at all. Just the cost with a looming QB transition

We all know that sacks aren't the clearest representation of a pass rushers ability but I do think you find correlation over time.

Good question-
How many sacks will equal Davenport being a win pick?

In year one I'm just going 5-7. If Okafor performs near where he was at last year it will be tough for Davenport to get enough reps. Year one, sub package pass rushing specialist. Maybe him AND Okafor with Jordan kicked inside.

I expect him to be a pass rush specialist almost exclusively. 7-10 sacks is success. Okafor, if healthy did an amazing job of sealing the edge. In obvious passing situations we can push Cam inside.
