Let me explain. We LOVE the saints. We LOVE drew Brees. We LOVE Payton & Loomis. We have trusted in them completely and brush off the national media when they question things/directions they've taken. We say things like "in Payton we trust" & "what would breesus do". We worship them to a fault. It's in my honest opinion that after they/we won a Super Bowl we stopped thinking for ourselves and just said that they know what they are doing. They do to a degree . I know they are the pros at it but damn, some of us, a lot of us know football and know business a little too. There are lots of educated fans down here but to many of us, myself included drank the kool-aid. Hell! We chugged it! We put it in our gumbo and ate it! We as saints fans tasted what it was like to be elite and got cocky. Got stupid. Other then the 2006 draft class the others have been so-so with gems sprinkled in jimmy graham. But we've also had some big swing and misses too. & then bounty gate happen. Then we go through 3 defensive coordinators in 4 years. Last years playing calling was horrific. Piere= screen pass, Sproles = wheel routes and bubble screens and Ingram = between the tackles. If I knew what was coming clearly the opposing defense would too.
I know my thoughts are all over the place here. I'm just trying to get them off my chest. It's also hard writing all this on a phone. But seriously folks. We need to look ourselves in the mirror and stop "worshiping " these guys so much. Thousands of us at training camp in the heat buying $5 gators des to watch guys stretch. Buying tix to games that cost as much as a vacation to orange beach. We are a blue collar state and have a fancy pants team. I'm not saying I know how to "fix " them but I know I don't want to keep coddling them. They are very well paid athletes that need to wake up. The coaches need to wake up. No more training camps at spas. No more who dat chants. No more $9 hotdogs. No more. No more.

Ok I'm stepping off my soap box.
What are y'all's thoughts? Am I way off?

Not off at all.. I have continually said that Payton has lost his fastball.. Not the same coach he was prior to the suspension in 2012. This team is full of pansies with no heart or guts.. Hate on the old guys all you won't but week in and week out guys like harper vilma sharper Jenkins shanle fujita greer laid it on the line. I can't say the same for this group of guys and that goes for the offensive side of the ball too. Jimmy Graham looks like a guy who got paid and is just going through the motions. This team is S-O-F-T no other way to put it. cancel the resort destination training camp and go back to Jackson and get back to where it all started.

This just isn't our year. I don't know why it's so shocking to most of y'all at this point. CSP said it perfect: "We're not that good." Plain and simple.

New Saints fans have become complacent in thinking the Saints are some all-time great franchise and should be viewed as such. The Saints, historically, are terrible. The league, historically, is cyclical. Bad teams improve and great teams regress.

The Saints are having "one of their worst seasons in the Payton-Brees era," and at this point, we could end up .500 or slightly less. That's not successful, but also not terrible for the NFL. Everyone is overreacting.

2005: 3-13
2006: 10-6 (NFC Championship game)
2007: 7-9
2008: 8-8 (everyone this year was calling for CSP's head and questioning FO administration)
2009: 13-3 (Super Bowl, World Champions)
2010: 11-5 (Wild Card)
2011: 13-3 (Best Saints team ever, imo - Divisionals)
2012: 7-9 (bounty gate)
2013: 11-5
2014: TBD

We are up and down. We aren't consistently among the elite. Very few teams are. Stop expecting too much and R-E-L-A-X, relax. It's okay to have a down year. Stop talking about replacing Brees and CSP. I bet everyone is glad we didn't in 2008.

I'm ok with a down year, the lack of effort and intensity is what is frustrating. No excuse in some of the performances that have taken places this year. If you lose that's fine but at least lay it on the line..

The drew and payton trust is earned and deserved. The rob ryan shite was overboard. Loomis, Payton and Drew all have their downfaults but frick, they are all 5 times better than what we could replace them with. I like payton's chances of rebounding this offseason, he's done it before.

Another cup is half full response. I'm not expecting the saints to return to the superbowl year in and year out. But look at the product on the field. It's more then just not being that good. They don't seem to care. It's like they all just expect someone else to make the big play and save them . Meanwhile j. Stewart runs right past them again.

I'm trying to be positive i am. I'm just sick of seeing them beat the likes of the packers & steelers then look like peewee footballers against Carolina & the browns etc. I'm tired of either seeing them lay down and give up or just beat themselves . Where is the fight in them. At least they had a little towards cam on his td run but that was more of just our D's thuggish attitude.

I understand what you're saying, and I agree, but try and put yourself in their position...

You come out of the locker room fired up ready to eat some Panther arse (no homo).
You give up a TD on the first drive.
You take a seat and just as the still images from the prior drive are being printed/downloaded to show mistakes and assignment adjustments, your offense has now turned the ball over and gave a fired up Carolina team a short field.
At this point, you still have the crowd on your side. You come out, and get a "win" holding the Panthers to 3 pts.
NOW you can sit down and prepare for your next defensive appearance and fix what's wrong.
But wait -- 1 play, turnover again...
You come back out, and now you've lost the crowd.
The Panthers' momentum alone is overwhelming, but remember you still haven't fixed what was wrong from the first drive.
Carolina scores again, 17-0 with not even half of the 1st Q gone.
You're still confident though, as a player, because you know you have one of the best offenses in the NFL.
3 and out.

You see how frustrating that can be for a defense? It's hard to stay motivated when not only can you not rely on your offense to buy you some time to adjust but they can't put up points to keep you in the game either.

It was just a bad game. Terrible start and horrible finish from a very un-resilient team.

Payton is not the most perfect never mistake a coach there is but frick, he's the perfect blend of hard arse and player's coach. He treats his profession like a business, doesn't get overboard with antics and keeps his cool. He's stern yet a bit player approachable. He's a fantastic game manager IMO. Obviously he's got work to do this offseason... but if there is a shred of thought in anybody's fricking brain that we should have him replaced this year, you need to ask yourself if your life is even worth living. Are your thoughts in life as a whole worth any fricks? They are not, you should just cease to be.

I've said it all year when it comes to receivers and DB's. No one seems to have the heart of a Who Dat. Colston seems to half arse it, Jimmy Graham has not impressed me at all this year. The only bright spot in our receivers is B. Cooks and hell he is out with a thumb. Defense.......Hell who knows what the problem is. lack of leadership on that side of the ball, DB's who can't cover grass in a field. It was said best before, just no heart.

Lmao..

He's young too, man. He still has a lot of learning to do, and I'm confident he'll only improve as a coach at this level.

I'm with you though, if you think CSP should be replaced please grab a pen and paper and try to write down 3 things your life is worth to this planet.

Probably the most important sequence of events in the whole game, IMO.

Being down 17-0 and only touching the ball for 3 plays is not a good feeling as a player. At that point all your game-planning and work for a week has just been nullified. If you have any chance you throw the game plan out the window and dig in. Really hard to motivate yourself to do something about it.

Every player on the sidelines knew that the defense wasn't going to force the Panthers to punt 3 drives for the entire game, much less come out and turn into a shutdown defense. The only one we really came close to winning after a significant deficit was San Fran.

Agreed. This team just doesn't seem to want it week in and week out. We've seen it at least a couple times already when they were down late by more than one score and instead of running the hurry up offense, they would be perfectly fine going at their normal pace and eating up clock by running the ball.

Remember that Sean Payton quote after the Super Bowl year? "Once you've tasted steak, it's hard to go back to hamburger." Well, this team doesn't want steak. It's content enough to have two day old Jimmy John's leftovers.

This board is peppered with those types of comments. You can probably click on 80% of the threads started from 1PM to today, and at some point someone mentions replacing CSP/Brees. It's truly sad.
