2025 Season

Well, we spent the entire offseason debating the value of blowing it up and getting the cap right, and the Saints said "frick that" and are building a team to win some games. I have been hearing a ton of sentiment on this board that this is a 3-5 win team at best. I just wanted to remind everyone that we are playing a last-place schedule with a veteran team, which includes the AFC East and the NFC West. Our toughest games are @ Bills, @ Rams, maybe @ Bears and @ Miami. The 49ers look to be our toughest home game.
We were 7 points away from being 9-8 last year with Dennis Allen as our coach, a 5th round rookie QB starting 6 games, and our team decimated with injuries. We were a blown crossing route and a misplaced 2-point conversion away from beating the Eagles and Redskins, the two NFC Championship Game participants.
This team is closer to a 9-10 win team than a 3-5 win team. Obviously, we are not a deep team, so injuries will matter, but this coaching staff alone should get us a couple of more wins.
IMO, I would have rathered cut Carr and use this season to get off of the old guys, but we obviously aren't doing that. Our division still sucks, so they must think we can win it.

Prepared to be told otherwise lol.
Completely agree. We were a 5-5 team with Carr, and the season wouldve been very different if we dont lose 7 games playing Rattler/
Haener.
Which is why I like Carr but am ready to move on. Carr missing games has truly cost us. He is getting older and just probably wont make it 17 games anymore.
We saw it with Drew, once he hit that point, missing 1 game, then 6 games, then 5 in the year he retired.
You see it all the time, Matt Ryan, etc. concussions took out Troy Aikman in his mid 30’s etc.

Think a lot just depends on the draft and how many of those guys become solid rotational players early. We improved at safety but our other “big” moves were just holding serve.
Cam, Badger, and Demario will lose another step this year due to Father Time. As roster currently stands still likely to have floor of 5 games and ceiling of 9 imo depending on health and breaks.

Totally agree. We have to hit on this draft. We can't afford another Payton Turner or an Isaiah Foskey. We are milking the absolute last ounces of football out of the old guys. We have to have their cheap replacements ready to go next season.

The optimists have posted we are winning the South the last 5 seasons and this is one of the best rosters in football.
The people that told you otherwise have been spot on. If extensions of Carr, Juwan, and Chase Young get you excited more power to you.
Until we have more than 2 players (Fuaga and McCoy) that could start on 25 plus teams in the NFL we are what our record says and that's a 5 win team.

The point of the OP is that we are not bottom dwellers, which is what most of this board thinks we are.
We are mid. We have always gone through spurts of being mid, even with Brees/SP.
This the NFL. There are few teams that make the playoffs continuously sans Brady/Patriots and Mahomes/cheifs.
Burrow missed the playoffs last year and the year before - 2 years in a row.
Brees also had seasons missing the playoffs etc.
The expectations of this board are moronic.
There is not a simple understanding of football and winning/losing and a realistic view of it.
Because most on here probably are non athletes, to be fair. They wouldnt understand.

If extensions of Carr, Juwan,
They tell me that (1) we have Carr next year and space for moves this year and (2) that we resigned Juwan at a fair rate.
Its also telling that we may not want a TE with our first and that a different position, maybe QB even is in play.

get you excited
Im excited to see what moves we make. Normal fandom.
And I know that the big picture hasnt unfolded yet.
You Karens can cry all you want tho FWIW. Not my mode of operation, it is annoyingly all over this board tho manginas whining every where.

Loomis idea of success is to just be a playoff team. Do just enough to keep the fans interested and buying tickets and merchandise.
From a business perspective this objective is solid, but this is a sports league business where winning Championships should be the overall objective. The goal should not be to just win your division and be a perennial playoff loser, the goal should be to always be building to compete for championships. If you are always working to put your team in a position to compete for a league championship, then getting to the playoffs will become automatic.
With this said, Loomis is just trying to be a little above average and depending on luck to get his average team to out perform its talent.

I am excited to see something new for the first time in 20 years. Do I think we will be contenders? Absolutely not. Do I think we can have an exciting season and win the division? Yeah, I do.
Even when we won under DA, I was never really excited to watch the games. You always knew we were going to get outcoached and that the defense would play great until it mattered and we would lose close games.
