The more I've looked the more I think he'll already be gone. He and Watt are better all around beastly DEs than Houston or Aldon Smith. BUT Smith and Houston are better pure edge/speed pass rushers. So I think they are both more likely to be around at #24 and more specific to our need. We have Brown who is perfectly good for 1st downs and short 2nds. Houston and Smith could learn the ropes and beef up a little (both young) and come in on passing downs and not worry about anything but heading for the QB.

But if Kerrigans there I think we make him a LB and not a DE.

Kerrigan at OLB sounds good to me!!

Its already changing, they keep adding new people to the mix.

All those guys except for Kerrigan look like 3-4 DEs

Jordan played in a 3-4 but is certainly 4-3 capable.
For overall 4-3 DEs in the no way possible at all at #24-
Bowers and Quinn
very small chance, that I wouldn't count on at all-
Kerrigan and Watt
Could be-
Jordan and Clayborn
Most Likely-
Bailey, Heyward, Aldon Smith, Justin Houston

I added 3 more guys: Aldon Smith, Justin Houston and Allen Bailey

big note, Heyward had elbow surgery and will be completely out of service for several months. Prolly knocks him out of the first round and Saints consideration there. I see him as a gigantically more attractive pick at #56 if they don't nab a DE at #24.

the more I read on Adrian Clayborn the worse he sounds. The big question mark on him is his head. Lotsa people who watched Iowa ball said he took lots of plays off. He dropped out of the Senior Bowl for no announced reason. No passion, no motor= no Gregg Williams.
Everytime I read about these types I have Haslett flashbacks. Super athletes/poor ballers. Let's dump Sammy Knight and go after Tebucky Jones.

I still want Kerrigan but the more I look at it this Houston kid may be a really good fit for us.

I see bigger holes in the LB depth chart than I do D Line. If Vilma goes down, we have the Bad News Bears.

depth isn't the issue, it's quality
Don't forget the guy who won a job in camp (Casillias) didn't get to play a regular season down. He's prolly good for some roles at least. Kinda leery about his injury though.
I figure Shanle will stay at a near embarrassingly low contract. As a backup I think he would be great. Can play strong and weak sides.
Marvin Mitchell is a decent replacement for Vilma. Not studly but you could do worse for a backup
Danny Clark has limitations but he showed enough to prolly stay around at minimum for SLB depth
Dunbar and Waters have evolved to roster spot fillers. If cheap enough and can contribute on ST they might stay.
It's the one position I wouldn't mind spending on a higher profile FA, like a Chad Greenway. Realistically though I'd expect someone more like Rocky McIntosh.

all mock drafts are garbage at this point. A lot can happen between now and late April.
It is simply too early to even make wild guesses. At this point, no one knows anything!!
