2009/2010 NFC Championship vs Minnesota = tGOAT Saints Game

This game literally had everything:
The sickening Favre Narrative ("He's just a little kid out there")
AP at the height of his powers
The Interception
The Pierre Thomas 4th down leap conversion in OT where the ball is basically coming out when he gets hit, but never does
Brett's purple ankle
"We have too many men out there... nooo" - Antoine Winfield
Saints kicker winning the game after the Saints had kicking woes all season
"Pigs have flown, hell has frozen over, the Saints are going to the Superbowl!" - Jim Henderson
Looking at the box score - Minnesota fumbled 6 times and lost 3 of them. Also had 5 TOs total to the Saints 1. Their coach (Brad "Chilly" Childress) also went super-conservative ran the ball twice before the Favre pick to end regulation, after they had moved the ball well through the air all day. If I were a Vikings fans, that game would've had me salty AF.
The Superbowl win was euphoric too, but I was just happy to be there at the time. Going into the SB, part of me figured we'd get more chances in a future SB and was just happy to ditch the "Never Been to SB" narrative as a Saints fan. As I've gotten older, I appreciated the ring bc you never know when you will get back there, which is obviously the case.
Regardless, will never forget the Vikes game as the most excited I've ever been for a Saints game from pregame to finish. Still to this day it's my favorite Saints win, and will likely never be topped.

some dude was sitting there in fat harry's on the final drive for Minnesota just not even worried a bit. not false bravado, he was all excited the saints were going to the super bowl. he said, favre will throw a pick. it's a guarantee.
Holy frick that dude is a legend.

Saints fans over the years had been conditioned to expect them to blow the game at some point. It just seemed inevitable.... then it didn't happen...

see I went to almost every game and the ones I didn't I watched in my apartment alone because i'm a miserable prick to be around or was before the saints finally popped their cherry
some girl dragged me out with her friends to fat harry's and I thought I jinxed the whole game...it was all her fault
we're married with a kid on the way

That is an awesome story and congrats!
My girlfriend was pissed at me for being so calm during the SB. She was like "you were yelling at the TV the entire game during the Vikings game, now you are barely cheering and it's the SuperBowl - what's wrong with you?!?".
I had to explain that the SB was always lagniappe - at the time I legitimately was just happy we were there. Looking back, that was ignorant, but it's how I felt. She was baffled bc she is a lifelong Bills fans and knows how hard it is to win SBs.
We got married and have a kid on the way

I had the most foul smelling gas in the second quarter of the super bowl...the whole section was looking at me
I calmed down after the onside kick. it was tense, but in an enjoyable way

it's so weird how the NFC title game was more tense yet the saints were down 10-0 in the super bowl and I was quietly tense. sounds like you too.
I think it's because we were in uncharted waters.
That was me. I ended up watching the NFCC alone after the 1st quarter, I was not to be talked to by anyone.
I was on my knees praying for that damn ball to go through the uprights in OT.

Can't blame them. They did outplay us that day and the box score was heavily skewed in their favor. Literally nothing went right for them and it seemed to happen at the worst times. Some of it was self-inflicted and the pressure got to them, but it was still unlucky to some degree.
We were legit #blessed.

The '09 Monday night asswhooping that Brees laid on the Patriots was better, IMO.

If we are talking Saints blowouts, the 2006 Saints 42 Cowgirls 17 in Dallas is one of my faves.

My grandfather (who basically raised me) was a Saints fan from the beginning. He was in really poor health by 2009 and I knew that season was going to be his last chance to see them in a Super Bowl. We held hands and prayed when Hartley lined up for that kick. We held each other and cried when it was good.
It was the greatest joy I've ever had as a sports fan. It was even sweeter than LSU in '03 and '07 just because of what it meant to the old man. We both knew it was his last best chance.
The Super Bowl was lagniappe. We were just happy that he had lived long enough to see pigs fly and hell freeze over.
I held his hand when he died a few months later. I don't care for football nearly as much since he's been gone because I can't watch the games with him or call him after the game. I still love it, but not with the same passion that I did when he was alive.
Those were the glory days.

The NFC Championship was a million times more tense. The Superbowl I was kinda relaxed.
