He would still be plenty strong enough to play the 3 or the 4 at that weight. And his knees will thank him for it. I dont see him lasting an 82 game season playing 35+ minutes a night at 6'6 285. Also, he might be even quicker and more explosive with the weight loss (which is scary to think about). If im on the Pels training staff I would starting a plan right now to get him down to a better playing weight.

also, zero reason he should be lifting too much weight with his lower body.

guys who are big and twitchy really don't need to be putting even more stress on their joints.

This is a picture of Zion on 7/4/18 at a Coach K pool party, around the time Duke listed him at 6'7" 285.

If he was really anywhere near 285 last year, there's not a lot of fat to lose. If he loses 35 pounds, it's going to be mostly muscle.

Dude walks awkward as well, i wonder if that has anything to do with potential knee issues down the road.

I agree with some, who knows what his real weight is, but 285 at 6 6 is a lot to carry and be explosive night after night.

Shaq may have only been 285 coming into the league.

I can't lie, ever since that clip on draft night of him walking down the hallway I've been wondering about this. We all know he is a big guy and hes chosen a career where he plays on hardwood and his strength is athleticism and jumping out of the arena. That's just not a recipe for a 20 year career to begin with. But..

Man he walks like his knees are bowed; or like he's already in pain almost. It can't be a great posture for what we are talking about. This is just a stupid, curious internet message board observation based on no medical knowledge at all. Still a Zion fan and hoping for the best.

Even if he has to sacrifice some muscle I think he should drop the weight. Can you think of any players who run and jump as much as Zion who play in the NBA at that weight? Even Dwight and DeAndre Jordan play at around 265. And they are around 5 inches taller and play less minutes/do less work on the offensive end. Zion is a physical freak no doubt but he may never reach his potential if injuries derail his career and I think it is in his best interest long-term to give his body a break and take some pounds off.

Greg Oden and Derrick Rose come to mind. Greg Oden had one leg shorter than the other then developed a limp from having it corrected as a kid? I think that's the story.

And Drose had a gimp when he walked and his twitchy high flying play style didn't help matters I'm sure. Zion's walk scard the hell outta me first time I saw him walking during pregame at Duke.

Charles Barkley won an MVP playing at 235-240. He should get down to that if he wants a long-standing career in the league.

I think Zion would be fine at 260-265. I cant see him getting down to 235-240. I heard the 285 is really his legit weight now hes a huge man.

IMO, he really just has knee soreness..

The "number of weeks" statement is the Pels giving it time for him to drop at least 10 lbs..

At least that's my theory

I agree, 260 or a little less should be his goal.
