The only other plausible choices in my mind would have been Breakers or Brass.
But I think Pelicans is perfect. The Pelican is on the state flag, it is the state bird, and it is a vicious, fighting, ornery, aggressive bird - which is what we will be to our future opponents
And I LOOOOOOVE the logo - it actually incorporates the fighting spirit of the Pelican, and has a basketball in it in the logo under the bill, and even a fleur-de-lis at the top.
I also like 'Pels' too.
I think most people will grow to like 'Pelicans', except Stephan A. Smith who says it's the worst name in sports. He can go jump in a sewer treatment plant for all I care.

Touche I remember a long time ago as a kid getting my ticket number called in the arena and they gave me a magazine signed by every brass player lol

While I agree with this, the Pelican does not have this perception everywhere. I've had a lot of people up here ask me if I was embarrassed by the name, as if we were named the Toucans or something.
