Quinn Snyder's "5 Slot" Offense

This is a video breakdown of a modified 5 out offense that Atlanta is running this year. It shifts the center over a little more than usual with 5 out sets which shifts the defensive center over just enough to be out of position to help. The Hawks are currently 5th in ORtg. LINK
I'm not sure how many teams have the personnel to run this kind of system, but watching this video makes me think it's going to get harder and harder for JV to stay on the floor. Not only for the defensive end of things, but part of this offense, which the Pels could run, requires a center that can cut from the 3 point line.

We don't have the athletes in the front court outside of Zion to make it work.
Atlanta has long elite athletes with Capella, Okongwu, Jalen Johnson, and Hunter to make it viable.
Only way we ever go to a true 5 out type of offense is if Ingram and JV are off the team and they revamp our entire frontcourt with a lot more athleticism.

They just keep finding ways to abuse that soon to be extinct "Dinosaur"...the old-school big (slow) 5. Gonna just get worse & worse. You can fight it if you wish...but eventually you are gonna be forced to adapt your lineup accordingly.
I suggest the Pels begin their "transition"...as soon as possible.

It's tricky since you need a good hybrid modern center to pair up with Zion to mask his deficiencies on defense and on the glass while providing spacing and complementary post play all while being that elusive rim protector. They just don't grow on trees.

JMO...seems to me the first thing you gotta decide is who do you have currently on your team that is, one way or another, a "net-negative" when you're trying to make this transition. I think we've got a coupla guys that, sadly...just don't "fit". I've still undecided on whether or not Zion can eventually "fit"...given his obvious downsides.
And...you're definitely right...it's a tricky thing to pull off...since just about every team is trying to make that same transition & needs those special players.

Oh good another “get rid of JV” thread when he might be the only pelicans who actually can play in a game soon
