if cp3 gets retired it will be a pelicans #3 jersey hanging from the rafters... he never played for charlotte so that wouldn't make sense, even if they are now the Hornets again

How would it make more sense to put his name and number on a jersey that he never wore? I doubt we ever retire his jersey, but if we do it will be a New Orleans Hornets jersey.

Personally I like the move. New Orleans fans don't have any real connection to the early days of the Charlotte Hornets, but many, many people in Charlotte do. Let them have it. Pels fans don't care that Charlotte sold out 350 straight games (or whatever it was).

Hats off to Benson for giving up something that doesn't mean much to NOLA fans and means a lot to Charlotte fans.

What happened in NOLA stays here, regardless of the name of the franchise (Hornets/Pels).

What happened in Charlotte as the Hornets from 1988-2002 and as the Bobcats from whatever year they started till now is getting merged.

At least, that's my understanding of it.

And I would assume we will un-retire Bobby Phils' number and give it to the next player who wants it.

Did we send that retired jersey banner back to Charlotte yet?
