He's my favorite Pelican of this era and it's not even close.

Mines Trey Murphy but I think Herb is a close second

He has the makeup of a future star.

I see it but I also don’t

Hawk obviously has an elite 3 ball, he has good speed, slightly below average to average defense, and he’s really good at working his 3 ball off action

However, stars, like real stars in this league all have the ability to create at a high level. Not always create in terms of assists, but in space, in opportunity, in openings etc.

Hawkins has never been a primary ball handler and almost all of his creation comes from a pump fake off some sort of cutting action

Of course there have been “pure shooters” that have been stars in this league but he will have to evolve in some way to be a true “star” imo

That might be putting on weight so he has more staying power defensively, it might be working on his handle and vision a bit.

Right now he’s a bit one dimensional, but that dimension is really good and it’s not to say that he can’t bring more to the table. I’m just not ready to call him a future star yet the way I am Trey

Herb with a 19 point, 4 reb, 4 assist, 5 steal and 2 block night. Can’t understate how valuable this man is

If we ever get healthy I need a CJ Hawkins Matt Ryan Trey Zion lineup. Defense would suck but try out scoring that lineup

I saw someone say it on Twitter but I thought it might be worth posting here

The Pelicans have the best 3-12 guys in the league and I’m really not sure it’s close

CJ
Trey
Herb
JV
Dyson
Jose
Hawkins
Naji
Ryan
Nance

Is just a gross amount of depth

If our stars can just even slightly work together this team will be absolutely special when healthy

Yeah this team is deep and has assets to make moves. The stars just have to play like stars

Well, that was fun.
Amazing what a little ball movement on one side and effort on the other can do.
I'll reserve judgment to see if we can consistently do both of those things going forward.

Yep, I need to see it for more than one game, but if they play with the level of ball movement and energy on defense we seen last night consistently, this will be a 50+ win team even with injuries.

Rotations are going to be interesting when we are fully healthy. They are going to need to find Hawkins minutes. I assume this will come at the expense of Daniels.

Naji could be a heckuva sweetener at the deadline...and we can't afford him next year.

Of course, this assumes we are healthy, which we know is not possible.

Zion - 30
Ingram -30
CJ - 32
Herb - 34
JV - 25
Trey - 25
Jose - 15
Hawkins - 15
Dyson - 15
Larry (when healthy) -10
Naji/Ryan (depending on night) - the rest

I think that seems about right unless I’m missing someone. Which is certainly possible we have a lot of great depth
