I don’t think most are saying he is good, just that he was better than Gentry and/or he would do better with this roster.

If it were reversed and we had Gentry first, fired him, then hired Monty...I'd bet this board would be wishing for Gentry back.

I don't know why anyone would want either, they're both bottom 3-5 coaches in the NBA.

You can't compare the two apples-to-apples. Cousins may be limited defensively, but Monty had to design a defense to mask Ryan Anderson, who is much worse. Also, Eric Gordon was often out of position defensively as he squeezed down on Anderson's man in the post as Anderson was getting abused. At times, it made Gordon's defensive stats atrocious because he would allow more open 3s trying to save Anderson from easy post-ups.

For reference, this is the roster Monty went 45-37 with:

Ajinca
Anderson
Asik
Babbit
Cole
Cunningham
Davis
Toney Douglas
Tyrec Evans
Jimmer
Gordon
Holiday
QPon
Rickety John Salmons
Russ Smith
Jeff Withey
Darius Miller

A lot of selective memory when it comes to Monty. And I remember people hating his plays out of timeouts
