re: Let's say you make the Trae/Center move...is trading CJ a "must"?

Plus, I don't see the path where we make enough moves to be a legit title contender next season, so if it takes 1 year to then maximize the team, that's fine.
while i've been in the trade for a star camp this entire time, i also recognize that we aren't winning a championship next year.
But we should be good enough to win a 1st round series like OKC and Minny just did, and then we see where we are at and make the moves to get us to that next level.
Then the championship window is 2 maybe 3 years down the road from right now, but it's clearly there b/c you have 2 guys capable of getting you there, you just need to get them the right help.

No one is going to change their minds here.
I still contend we are in the shittiest of spots where we have to do a soft reboot (i.e. move BI) and make a move that immediately puts us in contention because we really can't afford to waste anymore Zion years before the inevitable extension or request a trade moment hits. I just don't see any moves out there that accomplishes that.

I'd also argue that Trae Young is more of a star in name than in production.
Without looking, I'd guess there are exactly 0 players in the NBA who have averaged at least 27ppg and 10apg over the past 5 seasons.
The production is there, man.

He's shown that he's not a #1 on a contender
quote:Who is the guy you're thinking we can trade for that is? Garland and Murray seem to be the next best 2 players. The book is closed on either of them being a #2 on a title team, so who is the guy we're going to get that is a legit #2 then?
and, while we have no idea if he can be a #2 on a contender, his current tendencies say probably not.

See my post above... I don't think there is that.
I'm under the impression that we're kind of stuck and fricked.

And I do agree. But maybe where we differ is IMO that is THE reason why we should go out and get Trae Young. We're stuck, so swing for the fences. Take the high risk but if everything goes perfectly, also gives you the highest reward. Is that reward a title? I don't know, probably not...but it seems like it's the highest upside move we can make, I don't see where a realistic top 20 dude is coming to New Orleans any time soon.

we have way too many positive assets to be fricked.
We can beat just about any trade offer for any player out there if we wanted to.
We have zero bad contracts, all our 1st round picks and more, young players who are good in Herb, Trey, Dyson, Hawkins, and a top 30ish player that teams are going to want to trade for this offseason, not too mention a veteran who's still playing like one of the best 3 point shooters in the league.
No we aren't stuck in any way. We have options to do whatever we want.

But to trade for what?
Again, we're getting close to being against the clock for a reckoning with Zion. We have to start making playoff runs yesterday.
ETA: We've sat on these assets the last couple of years since the CJ trade and all we've got to show for that is a couple of play-ins, a first round sweep and a trade for Josh Richardson.

Trae, or who ever else may be available.
I'd bet money MPJ isn't on the Nuggets next year. He hasn't even been on the floor to close these games out.
If the Nuggets kick the Wolves arse again, are they going to just stand pat, or is KAT availalbe?
I still say a trade of BI for KAT straight up makes both teams better.
Harden or PG aren't playing for the Clippers next year.
Lillard is likely not playing for the Bucks next year. What if the Bucks would do a BI for Lillard swap, and CJ was ok with coming off the bench so that he limits his minutes with Dame on the court and that bad defensive pairing? I thnk that's a realistic conversation that could be had.
What if the Kings want a reset and Fox is availalbe? they've done much of nothing the last 2 years.
There are options out there.
