Funny JJ did not complain that the Pels organization allowed him to go how to spend nearly a month with his family while still being paid nearly $200,000 a game.

Agreed. Griff should have told Redick if he would be fine going to Dallas. Not just out of no where he found out he be traded there. Gruff should have communicate with Redick throughout. Saying, hey we have an offer for you and it helped out both of us. Not find out through social media that this happened.
Redick kept his word going to camp and trying to play. He told Griff it wouldn’t workout and it would be okay to get traded. Griff on the other hand didnt kept his word.
I know it’s a business and all, but when your boss tells you something then gl behind your back. It’s not a good look
Yep
I’m trying to stick just to what each has said, but if I’m trusting my gut on this, knowing Griff parses his words very deliberately and carefully, I think Griff knows he didn’t communicate to Redick properly and allowed those expectations to set in and he’s trying to spin it into a sort of “gee golly I thought this is something Redick would have been happy with,” but knows that’s bullshite(like does anyone really think Griff thinks Dallas is a true contender? And if you do believe he believes that, what does that say about his judgement?)
He doesn’t specifically say he spoke to Redick about going to a contender as another option, he mentions simply a conversation they had, that isn’t given a specific date, about being part of a contender in one’s career twilight.
Again, if I’m going with my opinion, I think Griff simply took that and used it as a CYA card to layer over a trade he knows he did in betrayal of the expectations he had previously set for Redick.
Maybe that assumption is wrong, but either way Griff needed to have communicated better to avoid this. Either by communicating things in a way that is clear and would avoid being interpreted as hard promises, or by opening the lines up again when the NE deals didn’t materialize to reset expectations.

Griff tells JJ that he's going to trade him to Dallas, JJ let's it leak that he doesn't want to play in Dallas, Dallas withdraws offer. Now where does that put you?
Puts you to where you buyout Redick and still have a reputable front office that a vet won’t talk shite about

I had no idea how much pull JJ Redick had in the NBA before this thread

Let’s not pretend that wasn’t to our benefit as well.
If you listen to the podcast the ONLY criticism he levels is at Trajan/Griff, no one else. And it’s pretty brief, he doesn’t dwell on it. He gives his feelings and experience and moves on.
He praises Gayle, praises Swim, praises everyone from coaches to players, to arena workers, and by name, praises the city, thanks Gayle and the team for a number of things including helping make some accommodations before their long west road trip to carve out 24 hours to see his son in NY.

They ain't stupid enough to take a QO. He isn't good enough player to play that card.
Josh Hart would be stupid not to ride zions coattail to fame and eventually competing for titles. Especially if he’s getting fair market value for his play. He’s simply showing gratitude towards his friend JJ but I would bet in private he’s like PEACEEEEE

Redick has a lot of friends in the NBA. NBA is probably the closest group of people out of all the other sports. If you don’t think this doesn’t effect the front office. You’re fooling yourself. NBA is filled with ton of divas too

I don’t know whether it may or may not affect future negotiations, but you don’t go out of your way to post on social media barely vague insinuations of anger on behalf of your colleague if you secretly are like whatever.
You’d just not post and then when asked make a nice statement in defense of him but not attempting to rustle any feathers.

And they're gonna be divas for their own shite not because of JJ's crying. But I'm sure Draymond will do the same double standard press conference nonsense he always does, ashame we won't be able to sign him.

You also have to resign guys...
And when you talk about the situations good teams get in where you have your core locked up and are now having to use things like your MLE.
Those are when things like organizational trust and perception can become a factor.
Still too early to say what, if any consequences will come from this.

Generally agree.
The “punishment” of being seen as “unfriendly” is the current status quo for small markets. FAs have virtually never rewarded small markets who are seen as “player friendly”. Pels have made LOADS of player friendly moves over the years and basically every FA signing we make is instantly panned as an overpay because that’s what it takes to get a ufa to sign here.
If in the future we somehow attract high level UFAs due to our success and the potential for a ring, this incident will almost certainly have little to no effect on whether or not we actually get our guy.

To me I think this is probably only a potential short term problem IF this is a one-off occurrence. And hopefully it is.
If this is instead accurately reflective of how Griff does business, it could definitely grow into a bigger reputational problem for the organization.

I hope so too. Redick goes to Dallas and performs. Mavericks go far in the playoffs and he is comfortable with the guys. He likes Dallas and keeps his contract. Which is a win. Only positive thing from this is that Griffin traded him to a contender so there’s rhat

You mean when we have to resign his roommate and good friend that shares the same agent, that just got goofed on by Griff?
Hopefully it doesn’t affect things, might never know for certain, can’t make such declarations one way or another at this point though. Regardless what side of the hot take talking heads and guys not in the league say.

No one actually believes Dallas is a contender this year, not Griff or Dallas

They’re in the playoffs and as long as they perform somewhat in the playoffs. I feel like they believe they are contenders especially with a guy like Doncic.

You mean the guy that’s restricted...
And I sincerely doubt josh hart will say “I won’t play for the pelicans ever!” Because of JJ fricking Redick lol. Especially with how much this organization likes Josh and how his career has revitalized under us
