the last star we had carried middling teams to greater heights than the sum of the parts would suggest is possible. We have 6 years of evidence of underachieving that the current star should rightly be held accountable for in some meaningful way

TLDR yes, mirotic should have worked

In a league where shot creation and facilitation are king, AD still lacks(though has been steadily improving) in both areas.

It is in part why the Demps model has always been problematic. Putting a bunch of combo guards around a guy that needs a true facilitator made little sense unless you star player is a Jokic or Griffin type that can reasonably serve that role.

if he's unwilling to play the 5, this is correct.

Mirotic worked last year fort the last 30 games and in the playoffs because embraced his role as the best 5 in the league. for 82 games, he's just not going to do it so you have to find a perfect complement to even get you into the playoffs.

i think Paul was better than Davis in NO.

and it's almost the inverse of Davis to me- Paul could and did find a way to grind, control games, and get a shitty roster to the playoffs. but his size always made it tough for him in the 16 game season and it made the shortcomings of those around him more pronounced

right. as well as Holiday has played, he can't be your best guard making near max money if you are serious about winning 50+ games.

you need a perimeter guy who can create at a high level. for all of his many strengths, that's just not his game. he needs to be your 3rd best player and 2nd best perimeter guy.

and the Pels even realized this 4 years in. the autopsy of the Demps era will be a hell of a story

right

chandler/west/peja were all above average players but had easily exploitable shortcomings in the playoffs. couple that with a near non-existent bench and paul's lack of size and the window was short. they should have gotten to the WCF in 2008 though which for this franchise would have been momentous.

those teams exceeded expectations and AD's teams did not. i think its time that davis bears a good deal of that blame

Show me which AD seasons where the Pels were predicted to really do anything? Hell this year, at best, we were projected as lower tier playoff team.
Last year too.

AD deserves blame, everyone does, but 60+ teammates (the number said on The Jump preseason AD interview)since he’s been here man. That’s a lot.
