It makes for us a great team, but I see a few flaws when it comes to the Denver side.

1. You create a huge problem at PG for the Nuggets. They have too many. They then have Billups, Lawson, and DC. It is too much talent locked in a position. It is very similar to are guard situation.

2. You have them trading JR Smith for Thornton. Would they really think that was an upgrade. I could easily see Thornton commanding a similar contract to Smith's. I personally like Thornton, but the move doesn't really make them younger are more financially flexible.

3. They then give up Birdman who is a great energy guy who appears to have a decent contract.

I wish we could get them to agree to that trade, but I seriously doubt it. I just think they could get more out of what they are giving up.

I think Portland could easily do a better deal than that.

I'm with you on this Flagg... No way Denver let's those 3 players go at once IMO , could it happen ? Sure , but it wouldn't be a smart move on their part.

The people who are objecting because Denver "doesn't need another point guard" really don't have a very good grasp of what the Nuggets would be trying to do IMO.

So you're going to pass on a top 15 young PG who is a good leader and playing on a cheap-arse rookie salary because you have Billups for 1 more season and Lawson who might never be a starting 1 in the NBA?

Really?

The problem is that Birdman and JR Smith are the only medium sized contracts they have to shed. They also don't have any long term contracts to shed. If they insisted on a bigger salary dump than we could give them with MoPete's $6 million trade exception, the best we could do would be Okafor to Toronto for the Bosh trade exception, Juju to Denver, and Kenyon Martin's expiring to the Hornets.

I had no idea of the Nuggets contract situation , but that makes sense... So if it goes down then it is likely to be on the form of a multiple team affair.

We'd have to much salary if we made that trade. I do like it though

hard not to like that trade... A franchise player + a proven wing scorer + a proven post defender for a lot of youth. I ain't crazy about giving up out yungstas but....

The Hornets increased revenue from this trade would far exceed the $6 to $8 million dollars in new salaries we'd be taking on, even if you factor in an extra $5 million luxury tax. I laid it out in an earlier post.

I think the Hornets would have to do a multi team trade to have the assets Denver would want. But if your trade were good enough, you could probably pay someone to take Posey if some contender doesn't want him outright.

I agree with what you are saying but it is a sophisticated argument that I wonder if Denver feels like they can sell it to their fans.
