How difficult is it to execute a sign and trade?

I’ve been dreaming of a AD to Nets trade that would include D’Angelo Russell. How hard are sign and trades to make happen? Is there no period of time that a team has to wait after signing them to trade them?

I'd love to get Russell too. But I wonder if you still couldn't do that even if we end up trading elsewhere. If Kyrie really does go to the Nets I don't see Russell staying there too.

The way that it works with sign and trades, is that there is a clause written in the contract that states that the contract is void if the player isn't traded with 48 hours.

Russell is a Restricted Free Agent so the entire league needs a fair chance to make him an offer. That means that you can't agree to a trade before/during the draft that would include Russell. If a trade for AD includes a S&T of Russell that means the Pels waited until free agency to make a deal. But if you do that you can't direct the teams you're trading with who to draft on your behalf in the 2019 draft.
