good mentor
We just traded one of the best mentors in the NBA who had almost 0 impact on our younger guys. Poole and Murray have been in the league +7 years. Herb, Trey, Zion will be +5 this season. With all of that being said I think we should 100% focus on talent/ best available and not "mentors".

Agree.
Getting mentors got us squat.
Get talented basketball players that fit

Exactly. CJ was brought in to be the "adult in the room". He had ZERO impact on Zion's professionalism. Z E R O.
Oh, and Ayton sucks. What a bust. #1 overall pick in 2018 in a draft that had Shai, Luka, Trae Young, and Jaren Jackson.

Lakers will be all over this one

then Ayton on a min contract is a steal.
That would never happen.
We are the pels we would have to overpay.

I'd give him the 13mil TPE. I mean if our options are Looney/ Kornet under 5mil or Ayton/ Capela at 13mil then give me Ayton and then Capela #2.

And we want nothing to do with him. He is just too lazy for.
I'm not overpaying for ayton.
The center market isnt that bad
Lopez
Wagner
Capela
Turner
All dudes i would prefer over ayton. And probably all more affordable.

One of these is not like the other. Also Ayton is better than all of those guys except Turner..

Then we haven't even gotten to the bigger issue at hand and thats aytons role.
You aren't signing him for 13 mil to come off the bench, and I'd much prefer to see what Yves ceiling is and keep him starting.

Wagner wouldn't be the worst. We could use a guy with his attitude

We don't need Missi to start to see his ceiling. Its actually better for him to dominate bench players and eventually start > being weaker against starters and by default us being weaker against benches.
If we have $13mil to spend and that's our position of need then you do it. Wanting Missi to start is an emotional decision and not the best basketball/ team decision when you know there's better options.
You don't just not do it "just because" when it actually would make your team worse and less deep.

We can see Missi's ceiling whether he's on the bench or starting. His minutes won't change. So the only thing you are changing is matchups and depth. Do we really think Missi starting against better centers and then a lesser center coming in at backup is the most efficient and effective path? Because its not.

So the reverse of last year when he gave starting bigs fits?
I disagree with you. He needs reps against legit nba starting bigs. Hes already a decent ft shooter and can clean up a lot on the glass.
I dont need to see a guy that needs the ball at the 5 starting. Poole, Trey and Z need all the touches with herb and Yves playing their background roles on offense.
And if you sign ayton, hes 4th in the pecking order on offense, do you really think you'll get the best version of him with that being known?

I didn't disagree with any of this. I'm not even saying he shouldn't be a starter. The fact is that if we can afford someone better which gives us more depth and the advantage then its worth it...
None of that means he doesn't play minutes against other starters. Its just the fact of having (2) advantages/ mismatches > having (1) or none.
Nothing I'm saying has anything to do with Missi as a player and everything to do with matchups, depth, and maximizing the lineup.
You don't not get the best player you can because of your reasoning. Its a mute point. Missi is our only center and we have to add one anyway. Purposely adding a center worse than Missi instead of better if you have the option is retarded.

I dont think hes better than Yves at this point in his career, and I dont think he'll be ok with coming off the bench.

Well that's an opinion and you don't really have much to back it up. What I'm trying to explain is what you are saying doesn't matter. If he signs then that means we have (1) of Ayton/ Missi off the bench compared to currently no one or Karlo/ Dickerson. It is better to have (1) of Missi/ Ayton off the bench than to not have them, really simple.
Idc who starts, if we have a Ayton/ Missi off the bench > Kornet/ Looney then you do it in a heartbeat. We can also only offer a 1 year deal so stop acting like it will stunt Missi's growth and will replace him for the next 3 years.
If Missi outplays him then cool maybe he starts and then is starter next year. If he doesn't then atleast we have someone better and still have a good Missi kicking arse on the bench.

That's the unprovable that we'll also disagree with.
Ayton is a cancer. Hes not a team player. Hes a me player.
If I'm Yves and you sign that guy to start over me, thats gonna make me feel some type of way.
