Lol national media has called him out for years. Fans/media has nagged him for years. It hasn’t worked.
I’m not butthurt lol its just silly to constantly complain about this rather than just accept thats who he is. Ir if you don’t like it then say trade him. But no one wants that either. Shaq was like this too- main difference he stayed on court and won championships. To me the hope is hes on the court and helps us win. Its his fifth year, hes heard the same stuff about his conditioning every year. Again it doesnt matter to him. But go ahead and complain.

Ok what do you want to do about it? Cut or trade him? Again what is your solution? Or just complain until he gets in shape.

quote:Not sure your point here?
I love the same people who complain about him aren’t willing to trade him either.
It's the best of shitty "solutions." But it's not perfec or even close to it, and we shouldn't pretend that it is.

I mean the solution is to get rid of him by trading him. Which I think Griff has thought about doing. But then you see even an out of shape Zion play and see how much of an impact he has as well. He’ll get in shape, he did last year. But I don’t expect this guy to have that Bron/MJ mentality.

Yeah but I guess my thing is how long do we keep complaining rather than accept thats who he is. I don’t think anyone here is willing to accept that.

It’s funny because this isn’t some complex issue to solve
We were told in Sept he was working to be in shape for the long haul (lie detector determined that was a lie). You’re more than a quarter of a way through a season of games, practice and extra work. It is apparent he cannot outrun his diet. It affects his conditioning and increases his chance of injury
So instead of all of your mental gymnastics and hypotheticals, I would just say to eat a cleaner diet. With his age and activity level he should not still be this fat 22 games in

So your solution would be to shut up and just watch him play as is?
I guess I just assumed that part of being a fan is wishing/wanting your team to get better. This issue is probably the #1 way we could get better - and given it's an effort rather than a talent thing, it's pretty frustrating.

Lol we go through this every year. He doesn’t do this shite. We get told every offseason the BS and either hes hurt or comes on the court out of shape. Again its who he is. Barkley has literally said the same thing about Zion for the past 3 years. Again, I’m resigned to the fact its who he is and rather hope he gets in shape rather than keep bitching hes not.

The answer is never, as fans, we never accept that.

Basically yeah. You cant control his mentality or his offseason. I mean the team can’t control it. Hes in year 5- sure you have every right to bitch but eventually after 5 years you realize who a player is and deal with it. And if you feel like its not worth it, then you actively root for the team to trade him.

quote:So whine and complain until he leaves and we can hope that the lottery balls fall our way in order to get a similar talent? It is not like he sucks. He is averaging 23/6/5 on 57% FG% and over 1 steal a game.

The only way the Pels trade him is if he has another injury which causes him to miss significant time. I'm certainly not rooting for that.
I'll keep rooting for him to get in shape.

When he gives no effort and we keep getting beat on defense, we shouldn't say anything about it...ever again?
No thanks
It's odd that you'd take exception with someone wanting a player to just be the best player he can be and not a few notches below due to laziness, but I guess we'll just disagree there.

Ok so if he continues to do this which he has shown he will do. Then I’m asking you personally do you think the team should trade him because hes not worth the trouble?
I get all the effort crap and being unprofessional but no one cares about that if he wins. In all honesty, I think pels have realized thats who Zion is and keep surrounding him with more effort guys (Herb, Jose, etc.) to build around him despite his deficiencies. But yes you can keep complaining- at this point though I think it’s useless.

People wouldn’t care if it was Cody Zeller who was out of shape
Perhaps as a fan, we see the potential with Zion and this team and care not to squander the talents of the 3rd superstar we’ve seen here. If you’re content with what you’re seeing you’re content with never having a real contender. Accountability is everything

quote:But bitching just to bitch is childish and the M.O. of many on this board. You would not even know that we won a huge game last night in a great team effort. The guy has finally been healthy and averaging 23/6/5 and that is not enough. At what point do we enjoy a victory instead of looking for the next thing to nit pick about Zion? It is ridiculous.

Shaq was like this too-
Orlando Shaq was nothing like that.
Lakers Shaq started to get that way, and it progressively got worst after that.
But young Shaq sprinted several times a game.
As the TNT crew said last night, let's count how many times Zion sprints. We're still waiting to hit 1 for the season.
Shaq would take the ball off rebounds and sprint like a PG down the court from time to time beating everyone. There's a 5 minute youtube highlight of him doing just that. And you can see him quickly getting back on defense on almost all of them. If Zion did that, he'd jog his arse back on defense even if the other team was pushing the pace.
When's the last time you've seen Zion take a rebound and just take off down the court like a freight train past everyone and dunk it? Has he ever done that in the NBA? That is somethign Lebron has done hundreds of times. Hell Ben Simmons has done it plenty of times. When you are that big and fast and you get moving like that, it's almost impossible to stop.
It's embarressing how out of shape he still is. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say he's the most out of shape player in the league. There are no excuses he can use for it right now like he always had in the past, being hurt or having a busy schedule (as if every superstar doesn't have a busy schedule).
And yes i'm going to keep complaining about it. And when he finally gets in shape, if that ever comes, we'll all be thrilled to death and celebrating b/c he'll be an MVP candidate. It took Jokic and Embiid a few years to figure out that they had to get in better shape, and they have been MVP candidates since they made the committment to be in better shape.
