But you're right in that most of the stuff (for all rockers) on stage is for show. The real gear is often off stage being attended to by techs.

Also: You don't need a bunch of amps to "rock". The amplifier cabinet is always mic'd anyway so what you hear in the audience is the mic's output of 1 or 2 speakers. Eddie Van Halen can have 25 full stacks on stage. You're only hearing 1 or maybe 2 of them. The rest are hollow.

The "small" Engl setup in the original picture is more than enough to make you go deaf.

Gibbons really does use all that gear - but not necessarily at once.

His early stuff came from something this (La Grange, etc)

Not only does he have those full stacks behind him, he has 2 monitors on the floor + the monitors on the left side of the stage. That dude has got to be deaf by now.

Yeah, I was coming back to say basically this. Even if they were real they wouldn't be using them. Don't need all that to get loud. It's for show anyway.

I don't know about Dinosoar Junior or anything, but Grateful Dead's "Wall of Sound" is pretty damn impressive.
