Number forty-seven said to number three
"You're the cutest jailbird I ever did see
I sure would be delighted with your company
Come on and do the Jailhouse Rock with me"

Jerry Leiber wrote these lyrics as a joke, and submitted them knowing they would be rejected.

But as the song kept going up the Elvis chain -- manager, arranger, music producer, film producer, film director, studio front office, movie censors -- no one blinked an eye.

And so the joke verse went out with the song, undertones and all.
