And to the OP, you should clarify your original statement. If you ask why there are no popular mainstream classical composers, then its because classical music is no longer mainstream. But if you are saying there are no good classical composers today, you are very wrong.

No one really makes music anymore. I'm a big jazzhead and crap the last jazz standard was made what 50 years ago lol? now all artists do is play what other people wrote but no one writes anymore. at least writes good. Spain is probably the last jazz standard and that was what late 70's. and shite that's not even all that complicated it's just catchy as hell lol it's nothing but a hook basically. Then again if Monk was born 50 years later he would have been Timberland lol.
