Not sure why you say that when the dropping of "Tells Like Teen Spirit" in 1991 is pretty universally accepted as the moment hair metal died.
e.g.
The Unforgiven was released as a single in November 1991 - the same month Teen Spirit topped the alt charts. That's the very definition of what this thread is exploring.
The Illusions were released about a month after Nevermind came out. Videos from that album were still a major MTV release event as late as December 1993 (Estranged).
Def Leppard released Adrenalize in the early summer of 1992 - at #1.
etc.
So, hair metal didn't die in a single moment. And certainly not exactly in August 1991.

Here’s some cool band transitions, some before they were considered Grunge
ON THIS DAY, May 23rd, 1987, REDD KROSS with guests GREEN RIVER, SOUNDGARDEN, and MALFUNKSHUN, played a show at the Crescent Ballroom, Tacoma, Washington.
In the months, years, and decades that followed, the permutations created by the band members who played this show were vast.
• On October 1st 1987, four and a half months after this gig, SOUNDGARDEN released their debut EP, Screaming Life, on Sub Pop Records.
• One year after this show, in 1988, MALFUNKSHUN's Andrew Wood would join GREEN RIVER's Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament to form MOTHER LOVE BONE.
• One year after this show, in 1988, Mark Arm of GREEN RIVER would join Green River's first guitarist, Steve Turner (who left the band in 1985); they would form MUDHONEY with Matt Lukin (formerly of (the) Melvins) and Dan Peters (formerly of Bundle of Hiss)
• Three and a half years after this show, in 1990, GREEN RIVER's Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard would form PEARL JAM after the death of Andrew Wood and the end of MOTHER LOVE BONE.
• Five years after this show, in 1992, MALFUNKSHUN's drummer Regan Hagar formed the band BRAD with GREEN RIVER's Stone Gossard.
• Twenty-eight years after this show, Steven McDonald of REDD KROSS joined (the) MELVINS...!

This. A power ballad by Firehouse got to #8 in October of 1992, so it was a slower burn than people remember.

Warrant - Dog Eat Dog
Not grungy but they dropped the glammy silly Cherry Pie type crap.
Ultraphobic didn't come out until 95 but it was more along the lines with AIC and Soundgarden type grungy-ness. Darker downtuned.
