I listened to a new podcast this morning by Malcolm Gladwell ("Broken Record". well worth the listen btw) and damn i forget how much music Rubin has had a hand in. Its mind blowing. especially considering what a pioneer he was in hip hop

I also didnt know he was basically an early member of the Beastie Boys when he was 19 (he was their dj)

Heres the discog from wiki which has him listed for production credit. Buckle up..

While he's obviously in the list of GOAT according to that list, there is a sharp drop off after the 90s, specifically 2003 was the last great albums on that list

To advance the discussion, ill list the credits later for Quincy Jones, maybe Spector, and... who else? Whos another name thatd be in serious contention for GOAT?

He’s high on the list, but he’s been living off of his past legacy for quite some time now.

His rock/metal collaborations post-2004 have been pretty subpar.

Metallica’s Death Magnetic would be viewed much more favorably if not for the goddamn overcompression.

He's definitely a GOAT but I feel like he's lost his spark this past decade.

in the avett brothers latest documentary, RR seems to be living in his own world

when they were recording "no hard feelings" and the camera would show him... it looked like he was listening to something entirely different by the way he was dancing and feeling the music

I dont disagree. But body of work, im not sure theres an argument over his GOATness. The imprint he had for decades spanning so many genres is amazing

Ive heard so many people say quincy jones for so long i took it on faith without looking. Though im not a jazz guy and a ton of his work was with jazz artists

Ill try and get time to paste some of the other guys noted. I couldnt find a site that was very easy to copy and paste
