top tier stuff, hard to bother ranking albums that are all great in their own way.

KidA is one of only two albums of theirs to hit #1 in America which is fairly impressive.

I actually think Pablo Honey is a fantastic, extremely underrated album. People don’t fawn over it as much because it’s basically straightforward guitar rock and nothing like what Radiohead would later become, but there are some really, really good songs on there.

And while we’re on the subject, poor Ed O’Brien. After OK Computer, Yorke almost wrote him out of the band completely there for a while. Tough being a guitarist in a band of multi-instrumentalists who decide they don’t want to play guitar music anymore.

One thing overlooked about Ed is how much he contributes to their live performance sound with his effects board. I think what really kept Radiohead grounded during the Kid A/Amnesiac years was their ability to still perform as a rock band rather than a techno band. This enabled them to hang on to their already established audience while exploring unique creative projects.

O'Brien is a fantastic guitarist. And there are a few songs even in that period of Radiohead's history ("Knives Out" springs immediately to mind) that continued to make use of his talents. But many songs off those albums simply don't include him at all. I think Johnny Greenwood's ability to recreate certain sounds live that other bands would have simply prerecorded is what kept Radiohead's ability to perform as a rock band alive.
