By better, I mean by orchestra or performance, not the song itself.

Recordings done on the German Telarc label are second to none--they used the best recording equipment available when capturing a performance.

The Ring Cycle box set on London is incredible. Great sound and a book is included with the LPs detailing the production.
I also have the MET Ring on Deutsche Grammophon on cd, from the 80's. This production of the Ring is on DVD too, which is awesome.
I've got a mono recording from the 50's of one of the Bayreuth productions of the Ring which is also very special, worth looking for.

Here are some pics of my LP box set, purchased many years ago. The copy I have came out on London. Decca pressings of this recording are good. Avoid the Time Life set, it is an inferior pressing.
