what is this opinion of orchestral/classical music on this board

i went to school to study trumpet. I have usually been disappointed with the general attitude to this genre. It is mostly apathy. I get the impression people think this music is dry, uninteresting and not worth the time.
Anyways, this is an anonymous message board and I'm interested in hearing all opinions - positive, negative and indifferent.

Meh. Chopin made warmups famous, but Brahms' Violin Concerto in D, Opus 77, 3rd movement is one of the best pieces of classical music out there. I don't see it discussed much in terms of heavily influential stuff, but it's my personal favorite.
Water Music, in its entirety, may be my favorite entire piece. And that's if you DO include Beethoven's symphonies. If it isn't my favorite full piece, then the 1812 Overture certainly gets the nod in its place.
I do highly enjoy that one of Mozart's most famous pieces was never intended to be more than background music.
Pictures at an Exhibition (is that the full name? And I forget the artist) is interesting. I thought it was several movements shorter than it actually was, or so I found out a few months ago. I never did get a chance to sit down and listen to the full piece. This piece, particularly "Two Jews" really helps to draw contrast between orchestral arrangements (popular) and piano-only (heard on npr once) varieties and just how unique they can be. Even with cutting so many voices from the sound, the pianist is able to recreate everything that's supposed to be there. I never decided which I did like better.
Anything there worth discussing? I tried.
