tGOAT Dead spinoff? Total shite? What are you reasonably expecting to come of this?

I have tickets for the Atlanta show, and I'm honestly not sure what to expect, but this might be my last chance to see any of the Core together. I guess the closest thing we have to a preview is this, and I can dig it

I agree. I will say this again--the band that we all know and love ceased to exist in August of 1995. The core 4 now seems like a bunch of tired, off key, off time, old heads that are trying to keep something alive.

It's like people are going to see these guys because "well, I might as well go because they may not be around much longer".

To me, the music just isn't all that great from them anymore.

Oh well--I'm off to enjoy my big box set (from when the GD were the GD--Jerry)

if you expect to see the grateful dead you will be disappointed
if you expect to hear great songs played well you'll be happy

No Phil, no care.

Nothing they do will approach the energy at Fare Thee Well.

Mayer is a great guitarist.

I've watched the shows he played with Phil n friends earlier this year and he played well, but seemed out of context a little. Kinda like if SRV or Clapton played with the dead.

Brent was good, but if we're gonna say the Grateful Dead died when a keys player went 6' under, let's go with Pigpen instead.

that was about the scene and the crowd, not really the music. i was in heaven for three days, but i can easily admit that the music was not comparable to peak Dead, not even to mediocre dead to be honest.

i'm not intested in Dead & Co. because i'm old and cranky, and i know that the douch-contingent there for john mayer will harsh my mellow

but, i got to see a bunch of shows back in the day, and got my "last chance" in chicago. i'm all good now. in other words, dont listen to me...

I think this has a chance to be good because phil ISNT gonna be there. His ego and insistence on singing ruined fare thee well imo.

Those dudes are old.

If i wanna see an amazing band playing dead tunes ill go see jrad. Nothing since jerry has died comes close to how good those guys are.

I watched them as well. Sounded very good to me.

Some GREAT moments in here.

That solo at 58:40 shows Mayer can fit in perfectly with this.

Not trying to be an arse, but you couldn't have been there. Nothing ruined Fare Thee Well. His insistence on singing is frustrating, but he's far and away the best musician of the 4 left and his playing was superb.

Everyone had such a great time that no one cared that he was singing too much. The energy and enthusiasm around Soldier Field was hard to explain.

They're old as dirt, but they still throw the best party, and they wrote my favorite songs.

JRAD is fricking awesome, but again, you obviously weren't in Chicago. The comparison is silly.

I think it'll be a damn good time. Not sure what you're expecting other than hearing some Dead tunes with a couple of the original members in an over the top setting.

Will it be as good as JRAD or Dark Star? Prob not
Will it be more fun? Easily
