Damn, they were an awesome live band back during a time when many bands had zero chance of pulling off a decent live performance of the over-produced music they were putting out. Jake E Lee and Ray Gillen were a hell of a pairing.

An amazing band that is almost completely forgotten. The Ray Gillen version of Sabbath's Eternal Idol is worth checking out if you haven't. Link to Badlands concert?

One of my favorite albums from the late 80’s. Just an all around killer album. Still listen to it to this day. Highly recommend!

Badlands never recorded a bad song. All three albums including the posthumous Dusk album are all great top to bottom. No big dopey shout along choruses, no pandering poppy crap. Best band in the glam/hair category (which they were always lumped in with) IMO.

Eric Singer went on to join KISS after the death of Eric Carr.

Badlands was essentially cancelled before cancel culture was a thing. Ray Gillen was very into tightening up whatever groupies there were at any given show and he ended up contracting AIDS (officially from sharing a needle with his uncle, although that only happened once and he wasn't a drug addict). He didn't scale things back or let any of the women know after he was diagnosed and was kind of a patient zero in the rock groupie scene. Families of some of the women who died from being infected by him sued and blocked releases and reissues of Badlands music for years afterward. Bad timing and bad luck shadowed that band relentlessly.

I still call in and request Badlands on our local radio station... and it gets played.
