Kid got one of these portable retro record players as a gift and now is into playing vinyl. Which I find pretty cool.

The card that came with it has the name of the website Victrola.com

Looking at the site, the first album on the list is Adele 30.
Price? $38.98. WTF?

It's due to limited pressings, which ironically is due to limited popularity. It's a very niche market now comprised of audiophiles who are willing to pay top dollar for top sound, so they record companies know they can do limited pressings and we will fork out the cash for it. It sucks, but that's the way it is.

Half true, there was a supposed shortage in vinyl due to Adele's 30.. but you can find most albums for the same price they were last year if you know the right places

You should probably do some shopping around. If you’re wanting that particular title, I’d wait a couple of months. It will go down when there’s thousands just sitting in warehouses.

Also, if you’re wanting to get your kid some stuff, Deep discount is usually really good on pricing. Free shipping over $25 and they’re currently doing 15% off with code.

Regardless of Adele I absolutely agree with the subject title. Particularly on used vinyl.

There is a record store here that will remain nameless and they are completely clueless about pricing on their used records. They like to show off some of their stock on FB and it's very effective in keeping me from shopping there. It's quite routine for them to have a common record with a filthy, chewed up cover and somebody's name scribbled all over it... and a 20 dollar price tag!

Greed is an ugly look.

There's one in New Orleans that does the same. That plus they jack up their new record prices. I don't know how they stay in business

just say Peaches (unless you are referring to another store but I doubt it), why be discreet if you're against their business practices..

I have been buying my vinyls for several years on eBay and occasionally Deep Discount. I'm not too picky about vinyl condition, press releases, etc., so I always manage to buy them for $15 or less on eBay, including shipping.

Do you mean the condition of the sleeve and extras? I'd be very concerned about the condition of the LP.

This, jacket or sleeve. Mine all play fine, need to spend more time cleaning them though.

Criminy. I have over 400 LPs. Many are original pressings in great shape.

I can only imagine what Marco's collection would price out at. I don't know what damage his LP collection took from the storm.

yeah, i just used Adele as an example. i know prices are going to be higher than they were when Vinyl was they way to buy music.

But,

Harry Styles: Fine Line
View Product
$38.98

Boston: Boston
View Product
$25.98

Michael Jackson: Off The Wall
View Product
$25.98

just seems crazy.

I have a lot from the 90s when CD was king. Not as many LP pressings of what are now classic albums, kinda crazy time in music retail.

I miss Sam goody
