Is this performance, devoid of any political influence, overrated or underrated? Or any other thoughts?

I have to admit to me it plays pretty well now musically.

Some great voices there.

Could have used some more Tina Turner IMO.

From what I recall, Prince fricked himself out of that one because of his arrogance.

I have to say that I loved that song and that video. Im no activist and honestly doubt it helped aids in Africa a bit but I enjoyed the collaboration and respect the singers who participated.

Always liked it and I still do today. Great job by all of them

I always thought the idea was a good one but the actual song sucked arse. It sounded like a bad REO Speedwagon ballad. Which is to say it sounded like a REO Speedwagon ballad. They should have let George Clinton or James Brown write it instead of Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones.

Prince would have looked RIDICULOUS with those other sheeple that recorded that song. He ALWAYS completely controlled his musical environment, which is one of the many things that made him so great. He also wrote and performed a song for the we are the world album and donated millions to hunger and other causes anonymously over the years. It wasn't his personality to hold hands and sing kumbaya with a room full of self righteous robots.

Springsteen is my favorite in that song. He's one of the only parts that doesn't wind up being generic.

Actually its purpose was to raise money for famine relief.

Unless Rolling Stone put out a list of the 500 all time best guitarists a week earlier and didn't put him on the list.

Not quite sure what your comment means, but if you're referring to the rrhof performance where he EMBARRASSED multiple r + r hall of famers who where trying to keep.up with him, he himself was being inducted that night. I highly doubt Prince would have been there otherwise. If you were referring to something else, pardon me.

I think he would have showed up to pay tribute to George Harrison whether he was being inducted or not but there is no doubt that Rolling Stone list pissed him off.

I wasn't aware of that snub- I guess that happened right before his and Harrison's induction?
