He grew up in NY and went to private schools. He didn't become a West Coast balla til later

its common knowledge that that was some bullshite fairy tale. it started because he was going to be in a play directed by someone associated with julliard.

He did go to a school for the arts but not Juilliard. Born in NY, moved to Baltimore(imagine if he had stayed there) and then moved to Oakland. Intelligent guy, born into a tough situation and was truly inspired by the movement. Was a bit bipolar with his thoughts and reasonings but that's what made him who he was. While I liked his albums for the most part, they weren't great. The Dear Mama (me againstt the world I think) album was strong and his best work until "All Eyez on Me" which was bigger for being a double and his 1st for Death Row than the quality of the album. Lots of filler on it. Makaveli " The 7 Day Theory" was by far his most advanced and skilled album, showing he was continuing to get better.
All that said and forgetting the fact that I actually liked and was very intrigued with the guy, he's the most overrated "great" rapper there has ever been. He's loved because of his "thug" lifestyle and his "keeping it real" attitude, not for his skill or his songs/albums. Biggie was by far a more skilled and better rapper/artist with only 2 albums.
