too bad we couldn't have had more of TD .. because TPS are creepy as frick with their choir / cult schtick. and their tracks are pretty aweful.

Yep. They were one of the best live shows I have ever seen. I'm pretty satisfied that I have had the opportunity to see them twice. I guess I can see how they aren't for everybody though.

Sorry but I'm failing to see any lyrical or compositional talent that other folks enjoy from them. Couple of their tracks have potential but their whole motif is lost on me.

I can get why some people don't like TPS. What is annoying though is people that don't understand them and immediately write them off because they heard they are a "cult" or sing "cult-ish" music, which is ridiculous. They wear robes because the leader of the band didn't wanted the band to seem as one, and not let 30 different outfits on stage be a distraction.
They really do put on a great live show. I've seen them about 7-8 times and have always been satisfied.

I've listened to (i.e. - struggled through) about 1/3 of their tracks and find them to being horribly pedantic.
Could see how one would enjoy a live show .. especially if you're tripping balls.

I don't see how pedantic describes their work. Maybe you could explain that more.
I like them because their lyrics seem to empathize with troubled thoughts, and they are uplifting. Like, "I know shite's been rough, but better things are coming." I also like how they blend the sound of rock with classical with a large sound that can only really be achieved by a large ensemble.

I mean just take a listen to some of the lyrics. You gotta be good / you gotta be strong .. I mean they're not exactly reinventing psychedelic christian rock here. And yes they have a unique sound and yes it works occasionally when they dial back the instruments and let a few pieces take control then have a measured transition. They seem to struggle with wanting a big wall of sound but not knowing exactly how to achieve it in a way that isn't overcrowded with instruments and clunky vocals.

I saw TPS live at either first or second ACL fest and they put on a good show...
Always thought TD was a mediocre band...
Not sure how one could be good to you and the other "talentless" when the creative forces behind the two are many of the same people..

I don't really get what you are trying to say here. The lyrics you quote seem to be about expectations to me. Maybe you are seeing more there... or less really.

I think this is a valid criticism, and I can see where you are coming from. At some points it can seem like they are trying to do too much. I like a lot of sound with a lot of notes in my music, so it doesn't bother me that much.
