Unbelievable backstory about him and the Detroit mob
and how shady the radio business was back then.
"Me,the Mob and Music"

Would make for a great movie IMO.

Saw them live at the Concord Hotel in Kiamesha Lake NY 1970. My dad worked there and got me tickets. Peace love and happiness.

IIRC I read there is a movie/miniseries in the works on Morris Levy, the mafia-connected owner of James' record label. I don't know its current status.

It wasn't just James. Steve Marriott of The Small Faces attended a business meeting in the '80s trying to get his unpaid royalties. He was told by a member of the Gotti mafia family that if he continued to demand his royalties, he would be killed.

Marriott later died in a house fire.
