I'm serious when I say that Titus Andronicus The Monitor is probably the best, and most complete album of the last 5 years. Truly epic in scope from the overall lyrics and theme, and for being a punk rock band, the sound is so much more expansive than you would think. Even referring to them as 'punk' sort of does them injustice.

I'm sure several will come up with plenty of great albums that garnered critical acclaim during this timespan, but for me I don't think it gets any better than this one.

You'll always be a loser.

Man, what a great friggin' album. I think it's only competition is the Cloud Nothings album from this year. I love this album so much and its still in heavy rotation for me. Can;t wait for their new album this year.

I can't wait either. Almost impossible to follow-up. I randomly decided to give this album another go this weekend, and it just amazes me how well it holds up.

I love the Cloud Nothings too. In fact, their song Wasted Days reminds me of Theme from Cheers, and The Battle of Hampton Road kind of rolled into one.

A More Perfect Union is a good straight ahead example of their sound:

I've been on a big Titus kick of late, very excited for the new album on 10/23. The Monitor is pretty much perfect, only album I would maybe take over it that timeframe is Dragonslayer by Sunset Rubdown.

The Airing of Grievences is totally badass as well.

Anybody that says rock is dead, should listen to TA (as well as Cloud Nothings).

I'm a rock is dying guy (in the indie context). I will give them a try...

listen to Nude Beach - II It may not be the best of the past 5 years, but it is the best straight Rock n Roll I've heard this year...

The Endless Night

... is wrong. It's just moved down the dial a tad. If you can't find a rock band you like right now, you're just not trying very hard or you simply don't like rock n roll.

(I personally side with the Hold Steady as the best rock band right now, but to each his own)

I will admit there are way too many humorless navel-gazing bands who couldn't rock their way out of a paper bag who nonetheless get praise heaped upon them by the Hipster Press. Hell is the full runtime of an Animal Collective CD.

The new AC album is actually getting middling reviews at best. I think it is pretty great though. Wouldn't classify it as rock though.

The Monitor is a great album. I got kind of sick of it. I listened to it almost every day for a month it seemed like.

They are a fun band to go see live.
