Jeff Beck was playing/experimenting with "psychedelic" guitar in 65. "Heart Full of Soul" from 65 has Beck playing a sitar sounding guitar. Most music historians say that is the first use of "Indian" sounding guitar. So maybe it's Jeff Beck rather than the Yardbird's that should be credited with creating that sound. Before Beck joined they were a blues band. The truth is many musicians were toying with Indian sounds at that time since they had all been exposed to the music from Ravi Shankar. That's how at the same exact time Beck and George Harrison were coming up with a psychedelic sound, Roky Erickson and 13th Floor Elevators were coming up with similar sounds way over in Texas
